Thanks! The first thing you need it a lot the 1x2 pieces with one stud in the middle.

Ah yes, this one does look like an Elan (unlike the other car of yours, where I was totally mixed up!). The front end is very good, with just 4 studs wide to play with. I seem to remember the racing ones being green with a yellow stripe from front to back: that would be a challenge in just 4 studs wide!
