Concrete Truck
A Concrete Truck with power functions.
About this creation

This. Was. Hard.
I worked on this for a long time. It took five months to build. There were many challenges and problems. It was originally supposed to have suspention but after 4 attempts (including trying to copy one of Sariel's design) I gave up on that. There were so many problems with the power functions I nearly gave up on the project twice. You are probably wondering why it says SLUG on the side. That is the name of the Lego club I belong to SLUG - Saskatchewan Lego Users Group. We recently put on a show in Moose Jaw. This truck was popular with the crowd which was nice considering the amount of work that went into it. You can see video of the functions here. There are many gears in the chassis which required building it far less ridgid than I would have liked. I may improve that someday. I decided to make the drum with exposed studs instead of slopes because it was getting expensive and I wasn't sure how it would work out. Overall I am happy with how this turned out

Power Functions:
2 IR recievers
1 XL motor for drive
1 XL motor to turn the drum
1 M motor for steering including working steering wheel
1 M motor to raise and lower the chute
1 M motor to move the chute left and right
working headlights

Manual functions:
opening doors
opening hood
fold down ladder

I'm not a very regular MOC pages visitor but since I posted my latest MOC I'm hanging around sometimes up here. It's the first time I see this MOC. I know these kind of trucks because I went to Canada a couple of years ago. When I saw the first four axle rigid like this I thought it was a little odd in combination with the conventional outfit wit a hood. Nice model. You indeed could make the drum a bit more smooth but then you've to decide to invest in tiles or something like that. About ten years ago I built something similar. Would like to try it again but then at bit different.

"I would have loved to have seen this in person!" The way you worded this makes it sound like you live near me. If you find yourself in Saskatchewan I still have this assembled.
Quoting Paul Beach I've been stalling on building something like this for a long time. Nice job, I would have loved to have seen this in person!

Thank you very much. It is hard to predict what will get a lot of views. The drum has a frame of studed technic beams and is built out ward.
Quoting Andy L This is incredible. That drum looks like a very complicated build. This deserves more views and comments. It is a masterpiece.

Quoting George Staples Haven't seen one of these in this scale before. I think you did a excellent job with it. All those power functions are fit in there tight. I was going to say to use a pendular suspension design, but it looks like you have way too many motors in there and the double steering would be hard to fit suspension into. Great work!
Yes, there are too many gears and motors to fit suspension in as well. I tried and tried. Maybe I will try that on a future truck. Thanks for the feedback.

Quoting Ape Fight Wow - what a beast! Looks pretty good (although a tad blocky), and those Power Functions features are superb - I'm amazed it drives with one XL Motor - it must weigh a ton! Anyway, a great build, 5 stars : )
When you say it's a tad blocky, are you referring to just the drum? Because that was intentional. I may change it to slopes in the future. One XL motor drives it well enough and it is heavy.

This. Is. Huge. An amazing truck, I love its overall shape, the steering and the lettering.
