About this creation
Aboard the Cylon Baseship.
Athenian: "Commander, this is an important day for our people, and yours as well."

Nempec: "What's this all about?!"

Athenian: "There are many things about our past you will need to understand before we can discuss the future..."

"After the Fall, when the Cylons left our home worlds, people did what they could just to survive. Stored food, anti radiation medicines; it only lasted for so long."

"We returned to the basics."

"Food, shelter, whatever they could find; it was put to use. People had to start rebuilding."

"Various camps among the devastated cities developed as hubs for rudimentary agriculture and trade."

"Advanced technology still existed, but inter planetary travel and communication played no part in the day to day struggle to survive."

"The biggest problem for our people was the population; we simply weren't reproducing enough to keep pace with shortened life spans. The radiation from the Cylon nuclear attacks persisted in the food chain for generations, and the projections were grim."

"This pressure also created enormous competition for raw materials. Armed thugs took their share, and skirmishes between groups were common."

"Some of these gangs became better organized under a scientific leadership, more like private militias. Their goal was to adapt Humanoid Cylon technology saved from the occupation, and reverse engineer it. The skirmishes were simply an excuse to find test subjects for their cruel experiments."

"They were attempting to find a way around the environmental disaster that our worlds had become. "

"Tissue grafting, synthetic hybridization. They attempted many different approaches to achieve their goal."

"It began in crude laboratories, but quickly evolved into advanced bioengineering centers."

"The only problem was the supply of healthy test subjects."

"Hey, Frank, are we still on for tonight?"
"Keep it down, you moron, of course we are. We're getting pretty close to figuring all of this out, maybe tonight's the night!"

"I just hope those goons find something else to do..."
"If we succeed, we won't have to be worrying about them much longer."

Athenian: "However, some took another approach by secretly studying the Centurions, and developing their own design. Clearly robotic life forms were able to withstand the multiple problems faced by our people: radiation, food shortages, reproduction.
But they had to work in secret due to the militias and competition for limited resources."
Beneath the devastated cityscape, in an abandoned underground railway line, a small group of engineers, machinists, and artificial intelligence experts secretly worked into the night.
"Hand me that screwdriver, would ya?"
"No problem..."

"So, what do you think? I mean, do we want to live in one of these?"

"The memory transfer, is it going to work?"

"That's how it all started, you know, a girl was able to transfer her personality, everything that she was, into a Centurion prototype. It's just now, we're doing it before we die, on our own terms."

"If you say so...I suppose it's better than what we've been hearing, the experiments and all. Slicing and dicing body parts. Disgusting."

"If this works, we won't have to worry about that fraking Cult of Poseidon goon squad anymore, twisted freaks!"

"We'll just have to make sure we don't stay out in the rain too long, eh?"

"Sounds like we might have to go topside, don't want 'em nosin' around the subway entrance. Time to shut down the generator."

"Just a sec, almost done with this..."

Athenian: "The militias rounded up people for whatever excuse they could think of, often in the middle of the night."

Athenian: "Once captured, civilians were transported to fortified experiment facilities."

"Okay, move along..."
"Frak off! I'm movin'..."

"This ain't lookin' so good, eh?"
"No, no it isn't."

"Pretty healthy bunch, Sir."

"Excellent."

"Take them to processing."

Meanwhile, back in the Underground, the life's work of the recently imprisoned scientists stand silent.

What will be their fate? And what of their creators?

Wow, the builds are excellent! Unfortunately, I don't have the time to go back and read through the other seasons, but I'll try to catch up starting with season 3. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Athenians are the creatures that the captured scientists made right?
That is correct. You'll see in the next couple of episodes. Thanks again! |

Nice to see the variety in the scenery. The ruined city with the FP buildings in the back looks very good, the experimentation facilities look really prison/ institution like with the use of lots of those fence/ grilles and there's loads of cool details in the medical equipment too. Good stuff!

FRAK! Look at this! AMAZING! I loved that growth chamber for the arm, was reminded of those scenes when Husker finds the Cylon labs. Is it just me, or did the humans being captured portion remind anyone of Terminator: Salvation? (One of my favorite things to do in sci-fi is find similar elements, since all sci-fi is often, by definition, very similar. You've done awesome here!) Some great builds here. Also being a huge fan of Caprica, I loved the reference! And the end...those Cylons...those "eyes"...robots, power up!
Thanks for the enthusiastic comment! Yes, similar things across a broad spectrum of franchises. Even that old Apple commercial back in the 80s. Not too many feature Greek Gods, though, so hang on to your teeth for the rest of the season! |

What a fantastic opener. Love the historic scenes. The post apocalyptic world you have created is extremely impressive - Mad Max meets BSG. Season 3 is going to be epic for sure.
A lot of staging went ito that set, but it was fun! I even built some trucksfor the occaision. Thanks for watching! |

One of your best episodes, a great way to start season three with a bang! The microcity in particular was a brilliant MOC, superb work.
Thank you for the kind words! I'll be getting some more milage out of these sets for sure. |

Wow! A whole other world of building, with a load of new scenes & sets. I like the way you've modelled the shelters and also the workshop with the Centurions in it. I hadn't realised until now, that the black and the grey Centurions are very different builds. I've never seen the new BSG but your story line is fascinating and compelling. I'm already looking forward to finding what happened next.
Thanks for the great comment, David! I had recently acquired a TON of pieces for another project, but figured I'd put them to use for the show first. Glad you liked it! |

Ooo, the suspense! Viewing this was almost like watching a movie, well done! The forced perspective in some of those pics is incredible. For some reason, whilst viewing those last photos, I couldn't help but think: Iron Man 2.
The microcity was a pretty big rig, covering more than half of our dinning table to create that sense of distance. My son was quite critical through the process, often saying "That doesn't look destroyed enough." Thanks for watching, Ian! |

Great minds think alike...well, you'll see what I mean when you check out today's post. Anyway, glad to see the show up and running again and with more new sets!~H
Some of these sets ended up being pretty huge in fact, although not that many pics for each of them. Oh well, it's fun covering the dining room table with Lego, either way! Thanks, Chief! |

Once again an excellent open to the new season - the story gets more and more involved as you go along, did you plot the whole arc from the beginning? like the reference to Caprica btw. Mood lighting for the night shots is excellent, perhaps a tutorial for us lesser mortals sometime?
Oh, no, no pre-plotting, although I do think a few episodes ahead, for the most part. Wondered if anyone would catch the Caprica reference there. Thanks, William! |
