The new ground attack fighter bomber
About this creation
VL-DS Fireknight

More info and images here, please click!
The Fireknight is a twin-engined combat jet aircraft for close air support, ground attack and tactical reconnaissance warplane with a secondary air-to-air capability. The aircraft it’s based on the Yugoslavian/Romanian Soko Orao / IAR-93 Vultur.

Many years ago, the Imperial Air Force began the development of the project Fireknight, designed to provide a low altitude, fast strike capability against targets extremely well protected, like airfields, harbors and enemy fleets. The air-to-air capacity was also required, to help the aircraft defend itself from the enemy fighters.
The requirements called for a light aircraft to be built on a simple structure, using advanced avionics, tough (able to operate on grass or damaged runways), easy to maintain and reliable. The aircraft was of conventional twin-engine, high mounted wing monoplane configuration with all flying surfaces swept.

Today (2041), the Fireknight, although obsolete in the years of Stealth aircrafts, still has an important mission, flying low under the enemy radars and destroying the enemy airfields before they can launch fighters to intercept. The fighter is also a well-known anti-ship and tank threat.

I like that plane! It reminds me a little bit to a Mirage fighter.
True, it has a similar role to the Dassault Mirage F-1. |

Well done. Considering the fact that I've seen Orao numerous times at various locations in ex-YU, I find the Fireknight even more appealing. Even though I admire your passion for creative, imaginary planes, I think you should try to build even more nonfictional airplanes, because you're really good at it.
Right now I´m trying to create the Imperial Lego Air Force, with fighters, bombers, trainers, every kind of modern aircraft. After that, I will return to build real aircraft. Thanks Voranc! I´m glad that you have seen the Orao before, it´s a beautifull aircraft! |
