This is the USSR aircaft carrier, official marked as Flightdeck Cruiser "Minsk".
Years ago, i had this ship as a plastic model-kit. When i startet to build with Legos after the dark age, i knew, one day I had to build this ship - again. :)
About this creation
Unlike American or British carriers, the Kiev class is a combination of a cruiser and a carrier. In the Soviet Navy this class of ships was specifically designated as a heavy aviation cruiser rather than just an aircraft carrier.
She was the second Kiev-class vessel to be built.
Named after the capital city of Belarus, the Minsk was laid down in 1972, launched on 30 September 1975, completed on 27 September 1978, and decommissioned on 30 June 1993.
The tasks in major of those ships were Anti-sub, Anti-surface.
At first, the airwing as it was used on the ships of this class.
Normally, the Kiev carried.

12 Yak-38M fighter aircraft and
and

20 Kamov Ka-25 or Kamov Ka-27 helicopters (U see the versions with engine off, folded blades and with running engines.
Heres the ship itself

On 31 May 2006, the Soviet aircraft carrier was finally auctioned off in Shenzhen for 128 million RMB to CITIC Shenzhen, the current operator. The Aircraft Carrier now is at the CITIC Minsk World in Shenzhen. The park is open to the public.

Awesome! Is the Admiral Kuznetsov a Kiev-Class?
No the Adm.Kuznetsov is the sistership of the Varyag (today Chinese carrier "Shi Lang").
But do you mean the "Admiral Gorshkov"? Thats a Kiev class ship which was sold to India and currently modernized called the INS "Vikramaditya". |

Cool! A very nice miniature-scale carrier. Nice detail with the helo-rotors moving :-) Interesting history bit too! |

You've perfectly managed to depict probably the most interesting carrier of modern era, congratulations! The thing is, I built one in the scale of my Ise and Graf Zeppelin two years ago, but it's so big that I never take time to photograph it (and I've been telling this story on MOC pages for waaaay too long). I've even started to raid it for parts for smaller projects and I'll have to rebuild it partially when the time comes. Your small rendition of this vessel will hopefully make me do this sooner... And again, your bridges on carriers are outstanding.
Thanks my friend. The only thing i can reply: BUILD YOUR KIEV CLASS! JUST BUILD IT!! :) |

You've kept everything so simple, and yet brought out the essence of the class. Regards. |
