The Hobbit: Dwarf Dori... BCBS Rd4
Here’s "… a decent fellow, despite his grumbling," whose name means ‘borer’ or ‘auger-man’ stopping to catch a Mountain Virtual View
About this creation
Dwarf Dori is my entry into the BCBS’s Month of August Challenge Build #4: “Matoran Strike!”

Important background info that you NEED to read before viewing the other pix:
I sometimes see similarities between the happenings/characters of the Bionicles’ Universe and Tolkien’s Middle Earth. So, in my view, the Dwarf Dori is a Matoran of Stone! Matorans of Stone are known for their great physical strength, and Dori was thought to be the strongest dwarf in Thorin’s company!. Matorans of Stone are down-to-earth and very practical. Due to the meaning of his name, I like to think of Dori as being a miner; and what could be more ‘down-to-earth’ than that! The primary colors of Matorans of Stone are usually brown and tan, and Dori certainly is tan! Matorans of Stone work with their hands, and indeed, in his work as a miner, Dori has become most adept in the use of the miner’s auger, a stone boring tool. But, his is not the typical miner’s auger. For the Quest, he has refashioned it to serve as a weapon, that weapon being a axe-like spear!

A Bro-Fisted Howdy To You From Dwarves Dori and Thorin!

Notice Dori’s deep barreled chest and large upper arm muscles. It is any wonder he was thought to be the strongest dwarf in Thorin’s Company!

A Miner’s Handy Axe-Spear

A Psi Visionary?

No, Dori never had any visions of Gandalf becoming ‘The White’. This picture is just for ‘envisioning’ the height comparison between a wizard and a dwarf. Besides Dori is a Po-Matoran(Matoran of Stone) and male, while all Ce-Matorans(Matorans of Psionics) are female! So, really no Psi Visions here.

Do stop by and visit the other builds in my ‘Tribute To Tolkein’ folder. Dwarf Fili has been revised and I will soon be revising Dwalin and Thorin.

Quoting Cody G His arms are really cool, but a tad too long compared to his legs. Maybe switching the short upper legs with the long upper arms would give him a more proportionate look? Then again, he is a dwarf, so long legs would convey that less. I like his stout torso. Very dwarven. :)
Your points are all well taken. All things I thought about too. All, I can say is... I just liked the longer arm length. Thanks for taking the time to really look at his build! :)

Quoting Vorred 03 Another rather tall Matoran, but I really like how he looks! The hand design is brilliant, the color sheme is rarely used and the spear matches the character very well! He also has a very nice part usage, like that old head in his body! Good luck in the BCBS!
Thanks, I wish I could say that I chose the mask in honor of you choosing this as the August build, but that is not really the truth. I have had it for awhile and have been waiting for an idea of when and how to use it. It is funky that it's your selfmoc's mask and you were the one who chose this theme for us tho! But, thanks to your chosen theme, you have revived my interest in completing the other Hobbit Dwarves! Thanks! :)

Quoting Brody Allen Good Job! Off to Lonely Mountian.
Thanx. Ya never know how well received a mixed them is going to be... I could have found myself alone, not on a mountain, but on an island! But my Gandalf was a favorite, so hopefully one or two of the dwarves will be? :)

Quoting El Barto ! Cool mixture of themes here, especially that Gandalf!
Thanx Mav! Yes, Gandalf is probably still my favorite of these Tolkien bios. And I'm guessing Dori is some shade in the 60's range... been awhile since I looked at a shade guide! :)

Quoting Parrington Levens way to cross over! haha, middle earth meets bionic could be quite series!
Thanx, if not a 'series' the way you mean, at least a series of Hobbit bio builds. The boss dwarf Thorin had 12 in his company! That's alot of little dudes! If and only if, I stay interested and don't get some other crazy building idea, it could happen! :)

Thanks, since 'builds' is plural I'm assuming you looked at the updated Fili? I'm all fired up now to try and complete all dwarfs... hope this spirit lasts. Oh, and I've enjoyed your recent postings! :)

Quoting David Alexander Smith Love the mountain view shot. He seems to be unaware of his own fictional identity, judging by the fact he seems content to ignore the tool bar in front of him. Lovely build.
Thanks! Yes, so he does! I left that in for atmosphere, atmosphere, atmosphere! I recently updated my Dwarf Fili and did the same thing! I'll probably do that for every dwarf I build... funky as it is! :)

Quoting Gale Winthrope While it is tall, compared to your other humongo' works it's about matoran sized, and I think that's what counts here. I love the idea behind this guy, I think it's a wonderful mash up between two different universes. The similarities that you stated really do make this guy pictureable as a dwarf. That weapon is very nice, but seems thin for how muscular this guy is. Also, the only thing that I don't like about this is that his neck seems quite long, he is a dwarf, not a giraffe! XD but that is not much of a problem. Well done again Topsy, I wish you luck!
I'll let you on to a little secret... those cone shaped thingys on each end are funky shaped weights! So, it's kind of a barbell! Hee, hee... clever repreve don't ya think! I do see what you mean about that neck, it is angled back a bit and it gives the impression of being longer. I angled it back to appear like he was getting ready to throw the spear, but the angle of the camera didn't pick that out, and it was getting late and I needed to post. Perhaps I will take another pic after the contest? Thanks, oh Eagle Eyed One! :)

Quoting Tabaris CarpeNocte Very cool, but ain't it a little much over the limit of 12 centimers?
Thanks, I suppose we will have to wait and see how he is received? That bio head, actually it's a matoran head?, lent itself to putting those 1x3 Technic bricks angled under his 'chin' for a sort of beard. I'm always trying to find a different design for a beard, that seems to be my challenge with these. :)

Quoting Michael Kringe Very nice design! I'm surprised how many similarities you found between the different species. Tolkien Bionicles are a really unique and creative idea for a MOC series, are you going to post all 13 dwarves?
Thanks, Mike! I'm sure thinking about building all at this moment... only time will tell. I do wonder if the creators of the Bionicles series were Tolkien fans?! Thanks again. :)

Quoting L.A. Miranda I told you not to post! Now I won't be able to win )= Well, now seriously, I like it. Althought it seems to be a bit tall, and it has your unique style, I can't think on anything more than a Matoran (and Hobbit) when I see it. The similarities between both speceis you have described are pretty rational and well-seen, and I'm surprised of the color scheme. How much tan! You have used the parts very well! I specially like that ponytail. To sum up: Great job, my dear, and good luck!
The ponytail too is one of my favorites. I really wanted him to be sized like my other dwarves, and there are a few in the contest that are his height. We'll just have to wait and see how they are received by everyone. Don't worry, my style is not always the most favorite, you've got great chances! Oh, and THANKS! :)

I got interested in building some other things and doing some experimenting, so I sort of lost interest in building more Hobbit Dwarves. But my interest in them has peaked again. I just might build every one! I'm glad that you like the spear! Thanks! :)
