About this creation
Heres Stormy the Snowy Owl, The first in my North American / Canadian Series of Birds.
I thought it was about time I built another Bird of Prey and Owls are my favourites.
The Snowy Owl (Bubo scandiacus) is a large owl of the typical owl family Strigidae. The The bird is also known in North America as the Arctic Owl, Great White Owl, Icelandic Snow Owl, or Harfang. The Snowy Owl is the official bird of Quebec.
It is one of the largest species of owl and in North America is on average the heaviest owl species. The adult male is virtually pure white, but females and young birds have some dark scalloping; the young are heavily barred, and dark spotting may even predominate. Its thick plumage, heavily feathered taloned feet, and colouration render the Snowy Owl well-adapted for life north of the Arctic Circle.
I have created a new CUUSOO project Hedwig, Harry Potter's Owl as I'm sure Harry Potter fans would love to own one of these ;-)
I will also be adding him to my LEGO Bird Project on CUUSOO. Please support the project if you haven't already, I'm nearly on 3,000 supporters but there's still a very long way to go!
Stormy was great fun to sculpt and I am very happy with the way he turned out!

Whoa, all those turns and angles are really amazing, surely another of my favorite birds from you, Tom. I especially love the very owlish expression of its face and the junction between head and body. It's great to have the head facing the viewer and the body viewed from the side. |

Another great bird! Do you take them apart or do you just have a lot of pieces and/or buy pieces? I just think it would be cool to have a collection of these things and not have to take them apart. No I will never take them apart! (even though I have to spend a lot of money on bricks) They are now pieces of art that I plan to exhibit, in fact I have my first exhibition in my home town next week, it's very exciting! This looks great! I've built big, living, bulky creatures before and it's tricky to get the curves and texture right. You nailed it! It looks good with the studs on top (SOT?). I really like the mouth and claws, too. Nice MOC. |

How is it you keep making these guys even better than the last? Great choice opting for studs. Practice makes perfect QUAD ;-) I don't really know, I am learning new techniques all the time and sometimes the pieces just fall into place. Oh My, you have just reasserted yourself as the master of the avian build. I loved Deus's homage yesterday (you've spawned a genre methinks), but this is in a different league, even to your own earlier builds. Wonderful expression, and somehow you've made those studs look downy. :D |
