About this creation
A very big welcome to my next tribute to RALPH MCQUARRIE.
This is what he envisioned for the COLONIAL VIPER.

Before you say it it looks like the Y wing from S.W. with a difference.

As over the past few months I have been building the Cylon raider , then I got stuck and then began on the Battlestar until it was apparent that I will run out of tiles for the hull so I had a look on line for Mr McQuarries viper and in doing so I found an amazing scratch build. Truly Astounding. The next day I enlarged the images so I could zoom in clearly for the extra detail.

There are a number of inconsistencies in my build is not as accurate as I would hope for but it is Lego and it is a ridged medium, improvising was in order and since small build was not an option. This Viper grew larger and larger.

This was a quick and fun build except for the photography and editing PLUS coming up with other ideas to enhance the overall effects. In some images there is a pilot, if you know Lego the pilot has been enlarged to look the part.

Now it is tempting me to build the Colonial viper from the original series. Yes another one but not from me. I have seen so many brilliant, varying styles and colours that others have built over the years.

After this build I will have to get back on the raider. Then one more Special build for the Cylons. I have to give the Toasters a good run, back then to the Colonial Battlestar Galactica to complete my tribute to Mr Ralph Mcquarrie.

The size of this creation is
Length 620mm X Width 360mm X Height 195 mm.

. Thank you for taking the time to look at this build ..

Quoting Dave Kaleta Not everything you build is insanely huge, but it usually is insanely awesome - this included. Love the blocky engines. ~Dave
Thank you Dave for your comment and yes occasionally a smaller sized build can be very distracting when pulling out the hair on a larger build. Cheers.

Quoting Christopher Biocca Ralph McQuarrie did a concept Viper for Battlestar Galactica? I didn't realize that. I was aware of the fact that he did concept art for Star Wars, but not BSG. Really cool looking Viper.
Great to assist you Christopher in expanding your sci-fi knowledge. I certainly find the sci-fi universe so intense and mind boggling every time someone creates something new or a new look on the old. Cheers.

Quoting Parrington Levens That look like it was a blast to build! Thank the Gods of Kobol they went with the Viper we all know and love, but this would have been a fun unicorn to throw into an episode somewhere. Wonder why they never did. Go Gazza go!
Thank you Parrington for one of many nice comments. Yes it is nice as a quick build and soon I hope to get a large viper we all come to know on my drawing board to make into a complex very large build. Cheers

Quoting Michael Rutherford Mr. King. It is great to see a builder really do justice to McQuarrie's work. Your model is absolutely mind blowing. The shapes, and even the textures are perfect. The model is deceptively complex. Lots of individual techniques all coming together on this ship. Although it's not nearly as impressive as the viper itself, I have to say, that launch rail you built might be my favorite part. Just great work. Attack!
thank you Michael for your comment and Yes the Launch rail is my fastest build and one I like very much too. Cheers.

Quoting Eric Landreneau I'd say the front end looks even more like a late-70s muscle car hood than a y-wing. Phenomenal build. Can't believe this is a quick-build, a break from a larger project. Brilliant!
Thank you Eric for your comment. It was a fun build to do. Cheers

Quoting Tim C More beautiful work, Garry. I love the angles you put together here, and I don't think it looks a Y-wing, I think it looks like an original take on the Colonial Viper. It's one of those special works that you think is one size, until you start examining the pieces used and you realize that it is actually considerably larger. Great colors. Great cockpit. I don't normally like the blocky look on thrusters, but you pulled it off nicely on this one. All in all, a great build. If you're taking on a Ralph McQuarrie series, I can't wait to see what's next.
Thank you Tim for your encouraging comment and Yes soon the next build will be posted. It seems to be harder to keep in one piece. Keep up the fantastic builds.

Quoting El Barto ! Awesome! I recall seeing several such sketches from the concept period, and you've selected a nice one. But I especially like that launch rail! Looking forward to that Raider! What, is it going to be the size of a man-hole cover?
Thank you Elbarto the great..... The raider may be larger than a man hole cover and soon to be completed after many hours constructing and re-constructing sections. Cheers.....

Quoting Gilkah Balcada Nicely done! You said, "since it can't be done at small scale." Why is that? Do you just not like miniature, do you have so many bricks it would be a shame not to use them, or did the shape just not work out right?
Thank you Gilkah for your comment. Perhaps I should say I like to build huge, large, imposing and enormously intricate builds rather than tiny micro scale models. I welcome everyone to give all my builds and make them into micro scale or even midi scale to expand the Battlestar cult lego builds. I definitely like the small builds as they show me it can be done. Cheers

Quoting Archon Caledonia The history of things like this are fascinating to me. I love to see the conceptual art and note the things that made it to the final visual product. Thank you Archon for your support and comment on this build. Glad you liked it. Cheers

Surprising design! When I was doing research for my CUUSOO Midi Scale Colonial Viper Mk1 project (also viewable here at mocpages under /moc.php/316103), I came across artist concepts of the Viper, but never that - I assume - very early version.
