Spitfire Planetary Defense Fighter
Designed for raw speed and firepower, the Spitfire keeps watch from above. Although it is not made for atmospheric flight, it is still a highly valued component of any well planned planetary defense strategy.
About this creation
Sorry it's been a while since I posted anything. Life has been keeping me pretty busy. I hope you like this. I used some gears from the 1970's (see my page, 'What should this be?') for the engine. I like that the cockpit is also an escape pod. Please rate and comment!

Really like this ship! Great use on the Technic fairings too (they are great pieces). And the cockpit module that separates!

Quoting Max Schreck I like the drive system most. Where are the black and white bricks from? They are great! (OK, you need not share secrets here, just curious;-)
Thanks, Max. I don't have any LEGO secrets... The black and white bricks are from the Star Wars Droid Developer kits.

Quoting Mihe Stonee Wow! i don't like such big ready bowed parts... But i have to say on this little fighter they work excellent ! very cool integrated!
Thanks, Mihe! This ship is basically a bunch of parts I had no idea what to do with, but I think it turned out nice.

Quoting Michael Rutherford I'm a big fan of planetary defense! Your fighter looks really cool from the front, the back, and the side. But I would recommend the addition of some triangular wings. This would make it much more attractive from the top and bottom. The stout winglets you currently have may be functionally correct (it's all pretend, so really, how can they be "wrong"). But from a purely esthetic perspective, I think more developed wings would really sweet'n this ride up! Attack!
Thanks, Michael. At first this didn't have any wings but then I decided it would look better with them. I agree with you, I'm not real happy with the wings, but wasn't sure what to do there. I may revise the wings. Your creations are really incredible, by the way, I'm glad you stopped by so you're on my radar now.

Quoting Daniel Brilliant Very cool use of those panel parts. They are so unusually shaped that they are tough to use, but you did a great job.
Thanks, Daniel. This one was hard to put together because of the combination of the technic bricks, regular bricks, and the old gears that don't really work with much anymore. That said, I'm really happy with how it turned out.

Thanks, LukeSC. Those are actually from a Droid Developer kit from the 90's (I think).

Quoting Tim C Awesome to see you posting again! A great return, Daniel. I love the shape of this new ship, especially the sides. The weaponry is understated but looks very functional. The cockpit/escape pod is a nice touch. Maybe I'm wrong, but it looks as though you beefed up your collection a bit since you've been away. Welcome back, good sir.
Thanks, Tim! This ship is a combination of a few things I didn't know what to do with. Some panels from the old Star Wars Droid Developer kits and the ancient gears from my childhood. I only wish I could spend more money on LEGO, but sadly, no.
