A Republic at War 04: Knowledge is Power

About this creation

(One standard week after the events of Chapter 3 a lone figure trudges up a mountain on the arctic world of Obroa-Skai to the monastery at it's peak)

(The hooded figure knocks at the large wooden door)

Doorkeeper- Who knocks at the Twilight Gate?

Figure- One who seeks the knowledge that is Light.

(The code completed the door creaks open and the figure enters)

(The hooded figure throws back his hood revealing Jedi Master Boris Yakerno. Boris turned and flashed a grin at the Obroan doorkeeper)

Boris- You know Ekin that climb has yet to become as easy as you say it is.

Ekin- Ah, Boris Once you climb it daily it becomes almost nothing! But what brings you to our humble monastery?

Boris- The war I'm afraid, the Jedi Council has sent me to negotiate the possibility of an alliance with Obora-skai.

Ekin- I see. Come we can discuss this over dinner, you must be famished after that walk.

(Hanging his cloak up Boris started to follow the monk, but stopping glanced behind him at a strange door. Boris quickly shook his head and hurried after Ekin dismissing the dark presence as nothing.)

Ekin- As you know Master Boris Obroa-skai has the most extensive collection of knowledge and documents in the galaxy all kept in our extensive library system, making us a prime target for attack.

Boris- Indeed, however the Republic is willing to send a fleet and garrison to protect that knowledge, and at least keep it out of the wrong hands.

Ekin- I can see your point, to us all knowledge is power- a power that must be guarded against ambitious individuals. For that reason Obroa-skai has decided to remain neutral in this conflict.

Boris- But the Separatists would all too easily disregard that stance and take Obroa-skai by force.

Ekin- Actually we have just worked out an agreement with the Separatist Alliance that you may very well be interested in.

(Ekin led Boris through more chambers into the dining hall where Count Dooku was sitting at the head of the table)

Boris- Dooku?!

Dooku- Ah, Master Boris, how pleasant of you to join us for dinner.

(Boris quickly drew his lightsaber alarming some of the guests)

Boris- What is he doing here? Was that deal with the Separatists an alliance?

Ekin- Master Boris please put away your weapon! You are in no danger! Our deal was that the Confederacy would respect Obroa-Skai's neutrality in exchange for Count Dooku's access to our archives.

(Boirs begrudgingly took a seat opposite Dooku as the food was served)

Dooku- Indeed Master Boris, I only wish to learn more about the knowledge the galaxy has to offer, there is no harm in that I assure you.

Boris- I may have believed that once Dooku, but I saw what Sith knowledge has done to you- how it corrupted the Jedi I used to know into a Sith Lord.

Dooku- A Sith? Ha! Has your own perception of the galaxy become so black and white? All knowledge- even Sith knowledge is power and must be guarded against those who would abuse it.

Boris- The Sith always take knowledge and abuse it! It is your philosophy!

Ekin- Boris please, it is our mission to instruct the ignorant we see no harm in allowing the Count access to our information.

(Fuming Boris abruptly stood and turned from the gathered)

Boris- I'm sorry but I have lost my appetite, I'll show myself to my room.

Dooku- Sleep well Master Boris. Sleep well.

(Late that night once everyone had retired Boris quietly woke up and walked to the library, the only light coming from the glowing book stacks)

(Boris activated the holotable and contacted the Jedi Temple patching through to Master Mace Windu)

Windu- Master Boris what news do you have from Obroa-skai, have they agreed to the alliance yet?

Boris- No Master, they've choose to remain neutral but I have something much more vital to report, Count Dooku is here.

Windu- Dooku? What is he doing there?

Boris- He's negotiated a deal with the Oborans to keep their neutrality in exchange for access to their archives I request permission to capture him. Dooku and I are about evenly marched and his capture would end this war.

Windu- Hmm, very well Boris you may attempt to capture him, but be careful, the dark side has made Dooku very powerful and may the force be with you.

(The transmission ended Boris walked off to find Dooku)

(Boris walked to the entrance chamber and the strange door he had encountered earlier. Sensing the dark side Boris opened the door and walked in)

(Boris soon entered a strange chamber different from the others in the monastery it was completely empty save a strange object in the center of the room)

(Boris walked up and touched the object. He jumped back, it was cold to the touch and wafting with dark power)

Dooku- Magnificent isn't it?

(Boris spun around and activated his lightsaber pointing it at the Sith Lord)

Boris- What is it?

Dooku- A Sith holocron, one of the few no destroyed by the Jedi as the Oborans respect knowledge they did not allow it to be destroyed, and yet lack the power to use it. Power that men such as you and I have.

Boris- The power to intimidate and harm others? To use any means to achieve an end? That is no power I want Dooku.

Dooku- No Boris, you misunderstand, it is the power to correct so many wrongs, the power to bring order to chaos, harmony to discord! Join me Master Boris, open the holocron and discover your true potential and together we will destroy the Sith!

Boris- So this was all a ploy? Just a ploy so you could attempt to turn me to the Dark Side? I will never join you Dooku, but it is not too late for you to join us, and come back to the light!

Dooku- Very well Master Boris, you have made your choice. If you will not join, you will be destroyed!

(Dooku activated his blade crashing against Boris)

(The two dance across the floor trading blows yet neither achieving a breakthrough)

Boris- You can't beat me Dooku, we're too evenly matched!

Dooku- Indeed, your skills have improved yet you are still no march for the dark side!

(Dooku unleashed a flurry of attacks driving Boris back into the entry chamber)

Boris- While you draw on the dark side, the light gives me strength!

(Boris fights Dooku into the library fending off the Dark Lord's attacks)

Dooku- You have great power Master Boris! Think of what you could become if you joined me! Together we would be unstoppable!

Boris- No Dooku, I will not give into those empty promises!

(The two fight back into the dining hall locking blades as they face off)

Dooku- Perhaps then this contest will not be resolved by skill with a lightsaber but rather with our mastery of the Force!

(Dooku breaks off and summoning the force sends Boris sliding across the table)

(Boris barely has time to react as Dooku leaps upon him)

Dooku- See what the Dark Side could make you! But now you will pay the price!

Boris- Not today Dooku!

(Boris quickly spins around putting the Dark Lord off balance and force kicking him through the window)

(Boris deactivates his lightsaber and walks over to the window. Sensing Dooku was still alive he turned to leave)

(Ekin and a group of Oboran security guards arrived to confront Boris)

Ekin- Master Boris, what happened! Where is Count Dooku? We heard a battle and came as quickly as possible.

Boris- Well, Count Dooku has...ahem... found a much faster way down the mountain and-

Ekin- Oh my... This ruins everything! Our neutrality-

Boris- Will be respected. Dooku just used you to try and get to me. I will return to Coruscant and make sure your rights are respected in exchange that your knowledge is kept out of the wrong hands.

Quoting Justin Singer Are we going to see the yondull (sorry for spelling) twins in this series?

Yes they'll be making an appearance later on.

It's great to see dooku do something again in this comic and we see him in action. Are we going to see the yondull (sorry for spelling) twins in this series?
