"Sorry about that, Sir. The requisition on fireworks came a bit late, so we decided to try a couple SRMs instead. We thought they'd go off a bit farther away from their launch point than they did."
About this creation
Well Rich, I gotta say thanks. I've been waiting for a good excuse to post up a variant of the Broadsword "base" for quite a while now, and this gave me an excellent opportunity to do so.
Anyway, this is the latest MST unit I've come up with, the Pikeman Direct-Combat MST. I suspect the MST line won't be deviating from the original Broadsword base for a while now (unless I get around to remaking the Rhae'llia, anyway). I mean, what could be better than that beefy-lookin' fella with the twin Superheavy blaster pistols? How about a thirty-foot robotic football player with an even bigger gun than the last?
Well, I made some changes to it. To start out with, I brainstormed a bit and figured out a way to strengthen that little thin part on the knee joint! It consisted of fabricating a custom ball joint using the Bionicle ball end, a three-stud axle, and a pair of axle-gripping 1x2 system/technic bricks. After that I put a gear-ish thing on the axle, and voila!
Second, I completely reworked the back. I ripped off the old junky "jetpack" thing and replaced it with a pair of MBS-style thrusters that look a LOT more convincing. I had to take of the two clip pieces for adding back-mounted weapons, but after testing a few such weapons on it, I found out those kinds of weapons don't work any way.
Third, I added a flashlight/camera/whatever on the side of his head! Yeah, yeah *yawn* spectacular. Well, it's something I've been trying to do right for nearly a year on mini-Mechs, MBS's, and other Mechs that use this basic head design. So for me it's a grand and incredible accomplishment. Besides, you gotta admit it looks pretty cool.
Fourth is some new programming. Particularly an almost human-like personality with a somewhat-dry humor.
Fifth... uhh... Well, not much else. I reworked the shoulders and a few other things a tiny bit, but that's about it. Cool paint job, maybe? Anyway, on with the show...
The gun. I have no clue what it is honestly. Something between a Covenant Repeater Rifle and a Sten Sub-machine gun. I assume it's not an energy weapon because it has the side clip thing, but beyond that it's up to you to decide what it is. A semi-auto grenade launcher rifle? Probably not, it already has a spot for some kind of grenade launcher/something-else attachment underneath the magazine.
Yes, yes, I know, it still has that same corny hand design. It's just that it functions perfectly for its job, and looks okay (as far as proportions are concerned), so I decided to just stick with it. The Tempest's hands just weren't functional enough and couldn't hold weapons very well.
Okay, a little more in-story description of the Mech. The Pikeman, unlike the Broadsword's all-purpose... purpose, the Pikeman is intended specifically for the heat of combat. It's the one you'll see in those makeshift trenches letting loose on some poor helpless mini-Mechs trying to charge the line, or fighting through war-torn city streets, or... well, you get the idea.
...Okay, that'll do for story.
Sorry about the lack of pictures, but I didn't have a lot of time for posing and editing so
I decided to take just one good picture, fix it up pretty, and get this thing up. Even still, have fun with your new toy. By the way, while building this, I got this incredible idea for peace treaties in the Elite Mechaniers roleplay...
