Hello everyone! Glad to be uploading this finally! The competition looks super tough though. First, a few quick words:
Mr. Xenomurphy's Superhero Contest
Scroll down for homepage link.
Anyway, I'm pretty psyched as this is one of my favorite works I've done so far, and the competition looks really intense! Enjoy and to all my fellow opponents, GOOD LUCK! (Also, this is pushing the boundaries a bit, but this isn't just a dio. I also created a back story :D ).
About this creation

Made for: Mr. Xenomurphy's superhero contest. Good luck to all, and may the best builders advance!
Text is at the bottom of the pictures.
*Edit: Category 1.2 Fail
What if a superhero fails to save the day? Build a vig (min 8 x 8, max 16 x 16) and show us a hero trying to avoid a catastrophe, fighting a villain or nature itself … and failing horribly. Dark humor is appreciated. A reasonable(!) overhang is allowed, like a plant, arm, leg, etc.
Now, we all know that Superman is probably one of the greatest heroes ever in the history of ever. However, I think that he'd fail majorly in today's society. Why? Read on to find out.

Lex Luthor is attacking the city of Metropolis! Who will save the poor citizens!?

Our hero Superman, Clark Kent in disguise, emerges from the confines of this building to deal with the newly emerging trouble!
Fail 1: The Telephone Booth

As our hero prepares to change into Superman... he discovers one little problem....

The telephone booths in 2012 are no longer large boxes. Instead, the ones still around are merely tiny little boxes hanging off the sides of subway walls or big metal rectangular prisms lining the streets.

Not to mention no sane person uses them. Today we have all sorts of people talking on cell phones...

and using other forms of communicative devices. Telephone booths are obsolete. Except for the Doctor. He still uses one...

Aw, don't get upset Mr. Kent. You can always run around the world and change super-quickly!

And away we go!
Fail 2: You-know-what...

Now that our hero is ready to finally deal with the impeding menace, a surprise is pulled...

"It's over, Luthor!"
There's just one problem with that statement. Unfortunately due to globalization, though we've attained some sweet products here in North America (go LEGO®!), it also means that other things can spread too. See, it's a super-heroes job to protect the people from harmful stuff, no? Well, it was so simple... all Superman needed to do was fly around the world super fast, turn it back to the time when ______ was first created, and then laser-beam it into oblivion so that it would never exist... but, karma comes back in one way or another...

See what I mean? Fail.

Still don't know what I'm talking about? It's the diabolical MEGABLOKS! (His only weakness next to Kryptonite!)
Fail 3: Oh....

The worst fail ever. I've always wondered... how do Superheroes keep their costumes so sparkly clean? I mean, you can't save the day with brown underwear on... unless your Desert suit Batman :P. Well, Superman's being backed into a corner...

Yes, I love Superman. However, time and again, I fail to see him saving us from impeding disasters such as *cough**cough* climate change, or also just spread the message of putting your ****** garbage in the garbage can instead of 2 cm next to it!!! I mean, seriously, if you've ever read a comic book, have you ever noticed how filthy the streets are? Maybe bad guys wouldn't be so successful at kidnapping people so much if people weren't so busy running all over the place tripping on banana peels or soda cans so much..

plus, how do you not get your suit dirty with so much garbage around...

SPLAT!!!

A hur hur... heh?

S***.
Bonus Picks

In between the giant's legs!

Take two!

Base of the fig with the improved version of the power armor. It's not that the one in the set wasn't cool... but...

Take... two? Again?

A close-up of the vig. Two things here: yes, the story leads up to the vig with Superman standing in... um... feces.

More shots! Also, note for the judges: I may be pushing it a bit, but there is a bit more than a one-stud overhang. However, the base is only 14x14, so I'm not sure if Lex's armor foot hanging out is legal or not. Altogether, the foot and the base just scrape under 16 studs long, but I do have to mention this to be fair and legal. If it counts as a disqualification, than just let me know, I'd like to fix it up, if that's okay. Otherwise, guess it's game over for me!

Even more!

I seriously hope you're enjoying these :D.

Close-up of the armor.

Base.

The street, figure-less.

The first floor.

The second floor. The lamp is original.

3rd floor. I honestly have no idea why I put that guy in.. seriously...

Can you guess who it is? Joe Shuster is one of my all-time favorite people. To me, he's both a hero and a role model. The man came here without a penny to his name, and a few copyright battles later was one of the two authors of Superman. This build is dedicated to his memory, and to his upcoming 98th anniversary of his birth, on July 10th, the day before my birthday :D. Thank you Mr. Shuster (1914-1992) for giving the world such a gift like Superman.

His studio. Hey, we all had to start somewhere, right?

Shot, robot-less. Looks pretty cool, no? I'm quite proud, this is one of my first really nice looking buildings I've done.

Then again, maybe you fail because your best friend is a super-jerk.

Excellent build, nice use of some unique techniques. BTW, did you change your camera, because you're picture are very clear.
Thanks! Haha, actually I didn't! I started playing around with some of the different shooting functions, and I found this really good one for blurring the background and getting much more sharp images. I also found ones for shooting in the dark, and other stuff. |

Your score = 4 > Interesting build, however by the rules, use of pre-existing builds - the power suit, which in your case is the central element of the build - leads to deduction of points
Okay, thanks I guess. However, I would like to mention, and I realize you had a busy schedule, so I'm sorry if this sounds a bit offensive, however you should have taken more time to look over my build. The Powersuit was of my own design. If you'd looked a little more closely, you'll see that I only kept a few small details, but most of it is from scratch, and my own design. The rules state that "• Every creation must be a new and unique build." The Powersuit IS new and unique, as most of the design technique was of my own, with some small techniques borrowed from Lego. That accusation is similar to saying that my design is not original because I connected the bricks in the same way Lego does and thus my build is not original. Thank you for your judging, and again I mean no offensiveness. |

Haha, I know what you mean David. Best of luck to you though! Also, don't worry. It's one little contest. Quite frankly, I'm not in it to win it, I just want to improve, and I was having some creator's block :D. This really let me see how far I've come in the last year. |

I am ASTOUNDED at the small details you can pack into such a small space! Amazing entry, thanks for looking at mine! That hairpiece does fit for Clark Kent...
Haha, thanks! I guess you can call me "Mr." details, haha :D. Thanks! I was hoping someone would ask about the minifigure! It's actually the head of Harry Potter. The hair-piece is Superman's hairpiece, I just took it off before taking pictures of him and used it for Clark. The curl covers up the scar really nicely so you'd never have even known it was there! |

Jared, this is an excellent creation with lots of details and funny ideas that gave me a good laugh. The overhang is reasonable, especially since the base is only 14 x 14. Good luck.
Thanks Mr.X! Glad you got a good laugh or two! Yeah, I'm pretty happy with the way this turned out, to say the least. Glad to know it's legal :D. Thanks, I'll probably need it considering the builds I'm seeing now!
