About this creation
Mr. Xenomurphy's Superhero Contest

Category 1.2 Fail
What if a superhero fails to save the day? Build a vig (min 8 x 8, max 16 x 16) and show us a hero trying to avoid a catastrophe, fighting a villain or nature itself … and failing horribly. Dark humour is appreciated.

When the bat signal went out over Gotham City, Bats was on a date… The Penguin had placed a penguin bomb at Gotham Zoo to rid the city of all the big cats (birds really don’t like cats). Time was slipping away and still no sign of Bats, so Robin, jealous of Batman’s fame and desperate for a little attention to come his way decided to play being the hero.

In his haste to save the day he neglected to notice he was in the panther enclosure…

Little black panther, gonna have robin feathers in his teeth tonight!

The zoo gate is shaped like a cat.

I tried for a Tim Burton-esque feel to this moc. It looks a bit more Beetlejuice than Batman, but it has that creepiness to it that a Burton film has.

The penguin bomb... a penguin... with a bomb...

After planting the bomb, Penguin runs into his sewers under the city.

The panther is fully pose-able, see cutting room pics at the end of post for extra images:

I made the base with three sewer holes on three sides so I could light it up.

Extra pics from the cutting room floor:

Thanks Mr. Xenomurphy for organising this contest, and thanks judges for doing your thing! Good luck all.

You and 4 other contestants got a score of 38, which qualifies you for round 2. But we got one contestant with a perfect score of 40, so one of you has to go. That means I have to act as a tie breaker, which is no easy task, since each of the 4 creations are great in their own way. I’d love to let all 5 of you into round 2, but though I made the rules for this contest, even I can’t change them – it wouldn’t be fair. For my votes I used the Fisherman’s system (http://mocpages.com/group_conversation.php?id=20908&topicid=83296#comment-1035363), otherwise I’d grant another 10 points for each of your marvelous creations. ----- Category: 2 out of 2 points. Perfect category match and an original, funny story. --- Creation as whole: 5 out of 5 points. Great details, like the cat shaped gate, the fully poseable panther or the background mosaic. --- Presentation: 2 out of 2 points. Awesome illumination and quality. --- Above average: 1 out of 1 point. Extraordinary for a contest entry. --- That leaves you with a total score of 10 points. Congratulations, you’re now a member of the Fantastic Four.

Oh my sweet little kitten what can I say that hasn't already been quoted already by fellow masters of our craft. Even so, I love the thought of Boy Blunder becoming the blue plate special for Mr. Whiskers! You always make me chuckle with twisted delight and for that I thank you. Meow!

Love the creepy gothic feel. The back 'wall' with the bat sign is excellent and the panther (my favourite animal) is fantastic. Good luck Leda :D
  July 7, 2012
not a bad panther... i like the sewer, and the gate is great! (P.S. if i made this, it would not be a panther about to kill robin, it would be a pack of my deinonychus. that might seem a bit unrealistic though...) 5/5

See now, the problem with this idea is that the judges would be looking for something "tragic" to happen and let's face it... would it really be tragic if Robin was eaten by a panther? No... I think not. Awesome moc Leda! Gonna be hard to beat this one (which... I won't by a long shot haha) ~ Chris.

This is a splendid build, but did we expect any less? The gate stylized into a cat is a fantastic touch, and the lighting is superb as always. I personally would have had Robin walking into a female strip club as a fail though. LMFAO LMFAO LMFAO

Thank you all everyone! Its good to hear so many people like the backdrop. I love it myself but was thinking the view on that could go either way. In doing this moc I've fallen head over heals for that old Penguin fig... must make more mocs for him.

Quoting Mr. Xenomurphy One word: Awesome (and I mean it). Excellent design style and wonderful humor - the penguin bomb gave me a good laugh. I remember when I asked you in the "The Greatest Show on Earth!" comments if you deliberately created the top of the entrance in shape of a cat's head. So this time it didn't happen subliminally, hahaha. Anyway, for me, this is no Tim Butron style, it's Leda Kat style - and that is even better. Good luck in the contest.
Thanks Thor! I remembered that question about the cat and decided now was the perfect time to actually try that. So thank you for that idea :)
