Fiat 500 Abarth
I have posted better photos (1/15/14). Hi, here's my latest car; it's not what I usually build, but I hope you still like it. This is an entry for a contest. I'm not overly pleased with the way this turned out; there's things that still aren't quite right.
About this creation
When I saw the requirements for Dan the Man's 9th Car Contest: Italian Cars, I immediately knew what I wanted to build. After searching for LEGO Fiat 500 Abarths on MOCpages, Flickr, and Google, I wondered why I didn't find a single decent one at this scale. Well now I know.

This car proved to be one of the hardest MOCs I've ever built, due to its curvy design. The rear was exceptionally difficult, because there are so many curves to translate into LEGO.

Also, the side mirrors were rather challenging to build since the top of the doors are slanted. I orignally was going to do without it, but I my Dad pointed out that it would look odd without them. He gave me some ideas on how to build them, as I was having a hard time; though most of his ideas were weird.

I have no reference to this car, but, it looks cool as itself, I especially like the front at an angle, it looks good with the headlights.

Might be a bit different to building super cars but this is really well done! It is an amazing amount of functional detail you have managed to cram into this car and still keep a very accurate look. Really great work :-)

This really is awesome! I'd have loved to let this win the last contest; but it's so hard to choose the top five when there is such a positive response to the contest... But I do want you to know that I absolutely love this model and it sure does deserve to be seen! - Dan

Great shaping and detail! The interior is very good, and I like the fact you can open the doors. I actually prefer the front of the Fiat, especially the lights and bumper. 5 stars overall!

This is awesome! Looks like it would be a difficult one to build, but yours looks great! It is very recognizable as a Fiat, and the curves are quite well done.

Quoting Starscream Soundwave You've made my all time favourite car! (after the Mclaren F1) I think you did a pretty good job, and I can't say this from personal experience, but I can imagine its not an easy car to build. The engine is very nice, but my favourite part by far is the interior. As a massive fan of the Fiat 500, I know the car pretty well, and I have to say the interior is spot on! (although I would say the steering wheel is on the wrong side) ;) Great build!
Thanks!

Quoting Malte Dorowski yes, looks simple. but, but ... you have to look closer. 1) front: it is very difficult (black stones) to recognize the details. hej Lego Builders, help me to recognize the details. air intake looks better in dark gray. 2) rear: the rear lights are made very beautiful and smart. 3) side: i really like that. nice round / angle. this design i've never tried... i will try it. 4) engine: compared with an original - very realistic and accurate. 5) interior: speedometer... insert one hand, as a speedometer needle. gear lever is also like the original. but now... i would never sit in the second row - i am the driver! ravishingly beautiful! and good luck.
Yes, Malte. I agree that I did not choose the best color for the front air intakes. The rear lights were a pain to build. I'm sure that you will amaze us if you try building this car. It's a perfect car to use your ingenious cheese technique! Hmm...I'm not quite sure how I would connect a minifig hand into the middle, since there isn't enough space between the tachometer and the steering wheel. I'll keep your advice in mind though - it's worth a try! Haha I don't think I would want to sit in the back either!

Quoting MortalSwordsman . Hi LB, it's great to see a car from you. An excellent little build packed with detail and style. Great work with the shape and the interior detail. Love the engine too
Yes, it's nice to be back building cars again! You're right about it being a small package - it's about ten studs shorter in length than my other cars. The engine was a challenge for me, because as you know, I'm not good at building them; so I tried a few new techniques (flexible tunes is one).
