It is almost 30 years ago. A red spaceman is wandering the galaxy in a small pod-type spaceship. He is enjoying listening to his new Abba tape on his walkman.

Being the Classic Space era, the spacship has no weapons, dodgy engines and very few greebles.

Little does the happy & smiling red spaceman suspect that something evil is stealthily stalking him through space.

A spider-like craft is swimming through space behind the happy Classic Space pod, waiting to strike.

Just when the red spaceman is busy changing sides on the tape in his walkman (if only he could have afforded auto-reverse!), there is a crash. The ship is stuck fast on something dark, hanging in the void. He looks through the yellow windscreen and sees: The Web of DOOM!!!

Crawling towards the red spaceman is a Spider Pirate ship, with its twin chainsaws buzzing, ready to chop up the Classic Space ship. The Spider pirate has deployed his web-spinner, so that he can bundle up the chopped-up Classic Space ship and sell it for scrap.

There were no guns in Classic Space but fortunately this spaceman is carrying a bazooka! He waits for the Spider Pirate to crawl into range with a happy smile on his face (but he is an 80's mini-fig and so he has no choice of expression. He's probably totally terrified!).

I was inspired to build this by having an ice-cream tub full of Technic beams and wondering what I could build. Then I bought a Creator kit with the angled brackets which lie at the heart of the web. The MOC was also inspired by all of the spiders who live in my house (or the North Wales Spider Sanctuary, as my sister once described it!). Finally, this MOC owes a lot to David Alexander Smith's wonderful Outer Reach Research Team series.
