A small bird alternative of 4417 aero pod. It uses some interesting building techniques to get the detail of the feathers.
About this creation
This small but detailed bird is my entry into the beginner level ("Prove That you are the best Beginner Builder") of the first round of The First Official Moccer Cup 2012.
Of the three X pods that I have built with this far, the aero pod was one of the hardest. It does not have many functional pieces, is not a wheeled vehicle, and has few useful parts. Thus, I struggled to make anything out of it. However, as I plan to make at least one model out of each of my X pods, I remembered DeTomaso Pantera's amazing British Bird Series. (Please support this on Cuusoo.
Thus, I decided to make a bird.
In this MOC, I wanted to use a special technique to make the tail feathers. Remembering the wings of DeTomaso Pantera's great Kingsley Kingfisher, I decided to use a similar technique.
This technique resulted in a bird with a realistic body shape as well as pieces pointing in every direction.
The front view, which nicely shows the beak and the eyes. You can also notice the thin legs and slightly outward pointing wings.
Side view, which again shows the wings. Also visible are the connections for the legs.
A view from above as the bird shows off its plumage. The tail feather technique is visible here.
Creativity: 10/10 (Something different really helps!); Imagination: 7/10 (the designs used are great, but since they have been used before I cut a little from your score); Build: 40/50 (Simple, yet elegant. Solid entry.); Photography: 8/10; Personal opinion: 16/20 - KP
