Salazen Grum: The Red Queen's Castle
The castle of the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland. Made for BRickworld 2012.
About this creation
The Red Queen's Castle was my contribution to the VirtuaLUG ALice in Wonderland display at Brickworld 2012. Based partially on the newer Tim Burton version of the film, it took me a few months and far more white bricks than I would like to know to make. It was the evil counterpart of Chris Phipson's Marmoreal. IT was a really fun build and hopefully I will find a use for all of my white bricks in the future.

I am too lazy to go through and caption each picture, but I will state some things first:
Thanks to Hans Dendauw, El Barto, the Sterlings, Chris Phipson, Mr. Bones and Mr. Xenomurphy for all aiding in the castle. While Mr. Xenomurphy created the fantastic decals you see on the soldiers, the rest all sent parts that made this creation possible. Thanks!

I will hopefully be making a post for the Alice collab sometime in the future. It may be a while though, so don't anxiously await it.

Lastly, thanks to all of my VirtuaLUG buddies for a great weekend. See ya next year!

yeah, it shouts wedding cake or something, as I thought it looked tasty too! Great build, so many nice techniques and non-rectilinear shapes to pull off with the ole brick! And yet again, I see another of the great sink holes of white bricks and slopes, now I understand the bricklink inventory irregularities! Wish I had seen this one!

Quoting Hans Dendauw NPD I can't believe I didn't comment on this?! Tyler, this was a monumental undertaking and you SMASHED it out of the park! It was a real pleasure to see this evolve over time to become the epic structure we behold here. Great work, my friend!~H
It couldn't have been possible without some kindly contributions. I thought you commented on this as well. I guess that shows how much we know!

Quoting Mr. Xenomurphy Impressive in almost every possible way. For some reason it also looks tasty. I want some strawberry pie with whipped cream now.
Now that you mention it, I do too. Thanks!

what a stunning work this has turned out to be Tyler. All those arcs and curves and mad spiraling stairways. The outer wall is great also, and the red patterning really works on this. Funtastic!

Same to you, except transfer the "stay in school" to your wife.

What, no several month wait this time? The first thing I notice when seeing this is all the texture. You did it perfectly, with enough to make it obvious but not overdone. The arches, different round towers, and red highlights all meld beautifully, and the hearts pull it all together. Truly a marvel, keep on building like this! ;)

Quoting Dave Kaleta Tyler, This is simply beautiful work. You invested heavily in this project and in the Wonderland build and your passion for the project showed. I can't tell you how impressed I am that you pulled this off so well, particularly the negative space heart archway. This is a fine accomplishment for your portfolio. ~Dave
Coming from you, that means a lot. The heart archway was the first part I made, because to me it was a, "if I can build that, I can complete this castle" step. And hey, if you ever need some white, you know who to talk to.
