Mack Granite US style day cab semi truck in scale 1:17,5 with PF to go with my blue lowboy trailer. What is new to this model is that I build it after a specific brand and model. It features solid axle suspension on all axles, Ackerman geometry on steering axle and a fully functional fifth wheel.
About this creation
I have been told building the same stuff over and over again and that I am copying myself. In a way I do agree with that, but here is my point of view.
From the very beginning of building trucks, I started with the “famous” white and blue truck with red chassis, none of my models were build after a specific brand and model. The reason for this is that I find it realy hard to do so building a model out of LEGO. Also because of the scale I build in, but also because even though men can build about anything with LEGO the building system has its limitations.

This new model, the Mack Granite is basically a make over of my US Truck 3. That model was inspired by a Mack Granite day cab truck and a Mack Vision with sleeper.
This is what I wrote with this US Truck 3:
“This model again is not an exact copy of a specific brand or model. I do have to admit though I am strongly inspired by the Mack Granite. Basically my model is a fusion of the Mack Vision and the Mack Granite but it is completely my own creativity that gave birth to this model.”
Fusing both Mack models into one LEGO model was the best I could do at that time. Also did this US Truck 3 hold two extra functions beside driving and steering that I did not use much on events. So I came up with the idea of re-building it which in the mean time gave me the opportunity to build it after a specific brand and model.

Since I have improved my modeling skills I wanted this new model to be specific and no longer a look alike. It is not completely new nor is it complex, world changing, mind blowing or is it with progressive building techniques. The goal I set myself was to simplify the tractor that goes with my Trailer 8 (Lowboy II) and to give it an identity. Those goals I have achieved and I realy love this new model and it realy was fun building.

Some other thing that is important to me is not to keep on investing in new LEGO all the time. I do extend my LEGO collection, but I realy give myself a hold to that. Basically that is the reason why this truck has the same color scheme as the US Truck 3. Not only because of this, like I wrote it is a re-build so I re-used about 60 percent of that truck into this new Mack Granite...

There is one other thing about re-building and re-using my own ideas and designs. Sometimes it is just great to just sit and start building. I am a guy that always pushes myself to build new things. One great example of this is the Elphinstone Easyloader Road Train. It was mind blowing to get this trailer done, sometimes I was about to give up and even at one point I hid it out of frustration. Of course it is great to get the job done, but once in a while I do like to give myself a break. Again, just sit down and build something that is already there...

So far ive got the chassis format down with the front bumper and push guard, but for internals for suppension and turning and such i have no clue how they work into this chassis, i plan on making my own cab
Great that you go your own way, that is what I want to inspire people to do. About instructions or detailed pics, I don't have any. Be insprired but you have to do things yourself, hope you understand. Good luck building and keep me up to dat if you like... |

I really love this Lego truck, I'm wondering what'd it cost for one of them made? :p
Thank you very much for these kind words. Well, I use a lot of rare parts and a lot of Power Functions. Together with the advanced techniques I use, after all it is fully functional, these models are quite expensive. That is also basically the reason I re-use parts... For every new creation one other has to go you see... |

Great truck, even if it is a rebuild! I also do not think you have to defend your trucks, they are really epic builds with Lego considering all the functions. I have a idea for a truck, I think you should build a dump truck with dump trailer. However they are your legos, and you build whatever you want with them :)
Thanks for these kind words, and I'll stop defending myself and just keep on having fun with my legos...you are absolutaly right about it!!! :-) |

Hey Ingmar,
There is no true and valid reason why you should defend yourself, choice of MOC's or trucks. We - as mere LEGO mortals - have to face the truth that you build in a devine style, combining superior Technic skills with great esthetics.
I can only say: i alwasy look forward to a new message in my inbox stating "Ingmar made a new truck, visit MOCpages". But honestly: i'd like to see you build a TAK4 Oskosh fire truck, or perhaps - with some Dutch pride - a Ginaf Iveco engined 4x4 Dakar Truck...;-)
Thanks for these words. Maybe I should not defend myself, I guess you are right. This is what I like doing, why shouldn't I. I have been thinking about an Oshkosh and also about a Dakar truck...so who knows... :-)

Nice truck. You know, Senator Van Krejil is right, but, beefore yoou build the things he mentioned in his comment, you should make this truck into A dump truck. Keep in mind that dump trucks have tandem bogie rear suspension. Sspeaking of, I cannot figure out how you make your solid axle front and rear suspensions. I will send you an email with my email adress and if you want, you can send me an email with pictures of your solid axle suspensions. No LDD ffiles, just real picturess. Here is a link to my latest creation: http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/324500 . You can also check out all of my other creations you haaven't seen If you want. Don't forget to comment and rate 'em! |
