Uzi (1:1)
The IMI Uzi, now in LEGO®!
About this creation
Having been quite busy with college and work for the past few months, I’ve been doing a bit less building and have taken a lengthy break from my LEGO® MOC-posting sites. I am now back with some all-new firearms to show you!

While attending a local gun show last year, I met an exhibitor who generously allowed me to take detailed hand-measurements of an old, deactivated Uzi she had on display, helping me measure the width and depth of its many components. With the aid of this useful data, I was able to better recreate the Israeli firearm and incorporate many of its iconic features, particularly the fold-out shoulder stock (the early-production Uzi used a fixed wooden stock). The life-size model also includes a sliding bolt and cocking handle, removable magazine, line-up gunsights, and a three-position fire-selector switch on the pistol grip.

One of the most iconic Cold War-era submachine guns, the blowback-operated Uzi was designed by Uziel Gal and first produced in the early 1950’s. The gun was widely distributed, and several compact variants have been produced, namely the Mini-Uzi and Micro-Uzi, as well as carbine- and pistol-variants for the civilian market.

[Overall dimensions: 17.5” long (stock folded), 24.8” long (stock extended), 1.8” wide, and 9.1” high (from top of gunsights to bottom of magazine). Total weight: 1.3 lbs. First completed on December 31, 2011; deconstructed on June 16, 2012.]

[The Uzi with its stock extended. The stock is locked securely to the bottom of the receiver while folded, but hangs loosely when extended.]

[The cocking handle and bolt pulled back, exposing the magazine cartridge. The model’s ‘look-down’ capability is unfortunately hampered by the lack of concavity in the cocking handle, a problem I haven’t been able to solve without severely weakening the handle’s pull-back function.]

[The magazine removed from the gun; friction is more than enough to hold it within the pistol grip when the weapon is loaded.]

[These rubber tires are rather handy for constructing aperture-type gunsights!]

[A close-up of the fire-selector switch; the gun is currently set to ‘A’ or ‘automatic.’ ‘R’ designates semi-automatic, and ‘S’ marks ‘safety.’ The printed letter tiles come from the ‘keychain name kit’ (#851627) that the LEGO Group produced several years ago.]

[While bright sunlight increases shadowing in an image, I appreciate the shiny, ‘metallic’ effect that it can lend to my LEGO weapons.]

Thanks for looking; let me know what you think!

Yes! You've finally built an Uzi. The uzi is my favorite weapon, and Ive tried many times to make one. This is just amazing. The detailing on the "grip" part of the gun is perfect. I love the body of the gun too, with the flat tiles on he sides. MIne aren't as good as this, but if you could check them out that'd be great.

Ah,Its very nice to see something new from you! Despite that the Uzi is not one of my favorite guns, this (as usual) is a very nice replica. I love very much how real your weapons look. I can't wait for your MP5!

Been a while since I've seen an Uzi. They were so in vogue back in the 80s.

Awesome! I really love the details. You should do an Ingram MAC 10 after the MP5.

Stunning, every detail is just perfect. The only thing that I would say could use a bit of improvement would be the charging handle, since it blocks the fore sight.
