Created by Global Inc. the GIMP is a public sector all purpose security unit. Created as a hub for augmentation and modification. [modified and upgraded variants to follow - watch this space].
At a time when Mecha were the dominant form of vehicle on (and around) Earth, Global Inc. was bidding to become the major supplier to the united Earth Defence Corp. Their first experimental unit was the GIMP. The GIMP's greatest strength is that the basic model can be easily modified to incorporate various upgrades for space, ocean, desert and air combat. It is also easily modified for cargo duties, repair duties for ships and basic rescue operations.
Its unusual configuration however makes it seem ungainly compared to other mechs of its size and class, which was the main reason the EDC rejected the design in favour of one created by the competition Andros Inc.
The GIMP however did find favour with a private organisation, the secretive EDEN Collective, who use the GIMP to defend their headquarters and its various variants to perform a variety of duties.
Conflicts between alien aggressors and Earth's defences, often feature the (uninvited) presence of GIMP units. Since the EDEN Collective believe they are prophesied to bring about Earth's "salvation".
Following a particularly aggressive confrontation with an alien aggressor known as The Plague, only one GIMP remains in private ownership. It is often viewed as a sort of Superhero by members of the general public. However EDC continue to have doubts about EDEN's loyalties.
THIRD WALL STUFF:
YAH!!!! I got LDD back. I've had this idea for ages to create an expandable robot concept. reading through the wiki page for an anime I'd never heard of before Gurren Lagann, I got a little inspiration on how I might achieve this.
I've gone with the 25th Century Mech scale as it is the easiest to work with, and because I could fairly easily work the concept into an existing fiction.
Basically I've used a boxy body that I can turn into the chest of a larger mecha unit. This will probably be achieved by clipping on bigger arms and wrapping extensions to the legs around the feet.
I've left some studs showing on the back and head deliberately as attachment points, as well as, leaving two clip points on the shoulders.
I've already created a very simple upgraded version to demonstrate this idea, but I'm looking on the net for inspiration for some better designs. Suggestions, links and critiques are welcome as always. [spam will be deleted, abuse will be reported]
