Volvo 780
Nobody expects a Volvo, right? They're far too.... boxy.
About this creation

I believe it was Ape Fight who long ago told me that he preferred a boring car done well to a supercar done a million times. Over the years I've come to agree with that sentiment...

*Beep beep*

Artsy shot, to highlight the artsy-ness of it all.

This could end up being an important view, I mean, there were certain race cars that had to maintain the engine block and silhouette of their production counterparts. Hint hint hint hint hint hint hint hint hint

hint. I mean, erm... rear view.

I'm not pleased with the underside of the rear bumper, I ran out of tiles and they really would've improved that bit.

Working bits! Here's the diff.

Steering

Independent suspension. The shock towers gave me quite the hard time, since this is 15-wide and the original Lego brand tower design was for an even stud width.

Opening goodies.

Working V-6, which doesn't make the pinging sounds with such gusto as the Datsun did. I'll have to tune it or something.

And the trunk, which comes with some free air.

Yeah, um... that how far the door opens.

The maroon interior makes a comeback!

Notice how I completely forgot the center console...I don't know what to say about that, really. I mean, literally I just realized this now. Uh... uh. Yeah, um seems to sum it up. "Uh", then. So much for a boring car done nicely, me, how are these folks going to shift!!?!?!?!?!?

I also ran out of white, so heres the "I have to park on the street in the city" side.

I still can't believe I forgot the console.... this deeply perturbs me. At least I'll have something to do this afternoon.

Overall I still like it. It's Volvo-refic!

Chris Melby doesn't like Volvos, though. So here's the pic he asked for whipped up in about 6-7 minutes. =)

Thanks for viewing!

That is really very well done! Lots of work on getting details and shape right. Too bad about the console-thing but that is a very minor detail. And i agree with ape fight's statement about boring cars and supercars - this car proves his point :-)

Nice Volvo! I like it when people build 'normal' production cars.

nicely done, great details, like the engine details, maybe it's the first volvo with a flappy paddle gearbox, lol.

I have a soft spot for Volvos as I used to work for them. I like this one and white is the right colour for it. Please add this to my C rap car contest group ;-)

Fantastic work! It would be greate to pose your Volvo and mine near each other - they should be in the same scale. Anyway - the amount of details you've managed to cram into this beauty is just unbelievable. And despite the boxy shape of these old Volvos - there tons of details in your MOC to explore. Excellent!

Very cool, but I personally hate Volvo's, so i would like to see you put together a jump it off a cliff vignette, J/K, or am I? Cool S, 10/10 for the build!

Yep looks like a car some college kid might drive, mismatching hub caps and all. I think you did a good job on this one, even if you did forget the center console. :P

Great! Very easily recognizable...not an easy thing to do with such an ordinary car. My only beef is the rear underside, but still 5/5. -LB Jr.

I always prefer a boring car done well to one I've already seen a thousand times - this is just fine in all it's authentic blockiness!
  June 3, 2012
I like the front of the car very much. I don't know if driving this Volvo of a cliff is good idea to get rid of it, these were pretty solid, indestructable cars, atleatst that is what I have been told. Nice creation!

Ooh... guessing the hints; Swedish Rally Cross? BTCC? Anyways, another very nice (if slightly less polished than usual) car from you - and yes, I absolutely prefer a boring car well done to a supercar we've all seen a million times already! : )

Quoting General Grayfox5 Did i see something that said star wars in one of the pictures?
Yes you did, I tilted the car using the Original Trilogy so more light could get to the interior. =)
