Ruos

Ruos was a young, headstrong Le-Matoran who lived in the slums of New Metru Nui. Like most of his friends, he was exposed to organized crime. Despite a few jobs to pay the bills, Ruos stayed away from the gangs. Instead, he took up Bio-Racing, a high-speed racing sport where Matoran built frames that enhanced their speed, strength, and combat effectiveness. Ruos started out with very little, but he quickly became a frequent placer, and grew increasingly popular with the local fans. It wasn’t long before a Toa-league team owner took notice of Ruos, and gave him a Toa stone and a position on his professional racing team.
As a Toa, Ruos became an even more formidable racer, and won many races and tournaments. Halfway through his third season, however, the team was bought by an old Turaga gang leader from Ruos’ part of town. Despite Ruos’ wariness, the rest of the season went smoothly, and Ruos was expected to easily take home the gold medal at the season’s final race, the Magna Cup. However, at that time, the Turaga spoke with Ruos, and instructed him to lose. The odds were very much in Ruos’ favor, and so profits would be immense if the Turaga’s thugs bet on Ruos losing. Enraged, Ruos quit the team, and used his savings to enter the race as an independent competitor. Nobody could beat Ruos fair and square, but it is always dangerous to cross a gang leader.
When the race started, Ruos quickly gained the lead, and held it. He was the first to spring many of the track’s traps and obstacles, but he easily dodged, weaved, and smashed through them with the skill and talent of a racer with much more experience than himself. The trophy would surely go to him, and bets were going through the roof by the time the final lap came around. However, as Ruos came around the final bend to the home stretch, a maintenance Matoran entered the track on a large forklift and smashed into Ruos, sending them both flying.
At those speeds, it was a miracle that Ruos lived. The Matoran was not so lucky, but he was not one to cross a gang leader, and preferred the quick death and money for his family than the agonizing alternative. Ruos spent the next seven weeks in intensive care, and even when his condition stabilized, he was missing both of his legs and lost control of his right hand. Penniless, defeated, and crippled, Ruos was out of options. When he went to sleep, his dreams were of pain, rolling, and fire. He awoke one day, not in the hospital wing he fell asleep in, but in a room carved of sandstone and furnished with metal. A Huna-wielding Toa stood in the shadows, and in front of him sat a professional-looking being, hidden beneath a Kanohi Komau.
The being, apparently a Makuta, rose and greeted Ruos, who was still laying in a hospital bed. He introduced himself as Shakahv, the Helper. Ruos and Shakahv spoke about the fateful night of the race and the circumstances leading up to the event. Ruos didn’t know why, but his anger at the Turaga who was behind his “accident” seemed to grow within him, and his desire for revenge began to outweigh even his desire to walk again. Shakahv offered Ruos both revenge and a new set of legs, in exchange for his loyalty, and just a smidge of Ruos’s elemental power . Ruos accepted.
Shakahv followed the Huna-wielding Toa to a medical facility, where he passed Ruos off to a technologically-apt Dark Toa who had built Ruos an exo-suit. It was similar in concept to a racing frame, but it was suited more for war than speed. The suit had six spider-like legs, thick armor around the torso and arms, and shoulder-mounted guns that could tear through a Toa’s defenses like paper. Ruos looked more like a Rahi than a Toa now, but he could move, and fight, as well as he once did.
The missions that Ruos took part in were usually bloodbaths. With a fighting past, even as a Matoran, Ruos found it easy to eliminate targets without hesitation. Under Shakahv’s rule, Ruos singlehandedly massacred entire villages, killed or kidnapped Toa, who were later indoctrinated into Shakahv’s army, and established a reputation among the Dark Toa as one of the most deadly and efficient warriors in their ranks. Most of the Dark Toa deferred to Ruos as the authority when a group of them were sent on a mission. The only one Ruos took orders from was Shakahv himself.
When Zethlin came to Ruos as Cossy and the rest of the Toa Lotem conquered Shakahv’s canyon stronghold, and suggested abandoning Shakahv, Ruos was not impressed. Thinking that Zethlin was no more capable to conquer Spherus Magna than Shakahv, Ruos refused. Zethlin persisted, until a quarrel broke out. Ruos fought hard, but Zethlin was faster, and Ruos was disarmed. Ruos realized the power of Zethlin for the first time, and agreed to follow the capable, albeit evil, Toa.
Under Zethlin’s command, Ruos had built for him a massive walking Citadel: a mobile fortress with immense firepower and the ability to enhance a Kanohi Tryna’s power to raise an army of corpses from the dead. Along with the other Dark Toa that abandoned Shakahv for Zethlin, Ruos commanded his Citadel on a conquest for Spherus Magna. No matter how many foes Ruos faced, he managed to always lead his armies to victory. No village, city, or stronghold could withstand Ruos’ relentless tactics.
When Ruos was on his way to the major city of New Le-Koro, he came across a tiny village in the jungle. As he was about to raze it to the ground with the Citadel’s cannons, he noticed that it was completely abandoned except for a solitary Toa. This Toa was sitting outside the village’s small gates, meditating. The Toa seemed to be aware of the Citadel, but he neither fled nor readied himself for battle. The Citadel approached the village, and still the Toa did not react. Ruos was baffled. Did the Toa not care that a force capable of obliterating the entire village around him with a single shot was standing on his doorstep? Ruos sent a Dirvum pilot that was on board his Citadel down to speak with the Toa. The Dirvum hailed the Toa, and the Toa finally looked up. He greeted the Dirvum politely, introduced himself as Sepviren, and offered the Dirvum a beverage. Confused, the Dirvum asked Sepviren why Sepviren did not fear the Citadel before him, and why he greeted an enemy with such manners. Sepviren simply stated that his quarrel was with the Dirvum’s master and not the Dirvum himself. He then said that if the commander of the Citadel wished for a battle, then he should come down and fight as warriors do, rather than cower in his fortress. When the Dirvum told Ruos of Sepviren’s challenge, he stormed out of the Citadel in a haughty rage. Sepviren sized up the cyborg Toa that stood before him, then rose, and readied his staff for battle.
Ruos opened fire on Sepviren with his shoulder-mounted cannons, which sent a flurry of bullets toward the Toa. Sepviren leapt out of the way, and used his power over Plantlife to immobilize Ruos by tangling his legs with roots. Ruos was strong, however, and began to rip free from the thick roots as if they were no more than a minor hindrance. Sepviren backed against a wall, staff raised. Ruos, in a fury, charged Sepviren with incredible speed. Sepviren leaped out of the way, and Ruos smashed into the wall. Sepviren ran to a tree, which was partially cut to fall into the wall. He used his power over plantlife to knock the tree over the rest of the way, and it came crashing down onto Ruos. Ruos could not be stopped even by a tree, however. He struggled, and inched closer to freedom. As he was beginning to break free, Sepviren waved his hands frantically in the air, yelling, “NOW!” Ruos was then struck with an intense, stinging pain through his chest. An instant later, the thunderous crack of a rifle was heard. Ruos could only stare at Sepviren in shock as he breathed one last, ragged breath. He fell to the ground with a faint whir of motors from his robotic legs.
The lieutenants of the Citadel were awestruck. How could their mighty leader be killed so easily? After a moment’s hesitation, the commanding officer of the Citadel ordered the attack. Sepviren looked up, and saw dozens of guns targeting him. He ran, but the blasts were large enough to set the entire village aflame. Sepviren, like Ruos, was no more.
Toa Altarion, the sniper of this mission, watched in horror as his partner and teammate was obliterated. Quickly regaining his composure, Altarion approached the Citadel from the side and climbed up one of its massive mechanical limbs. As the commanding officer ascended to the Citadel’s control room to activate the Kanohi and deploy the undead army onboard to search for Ruos’ killer, Altarion snuck past the temporarily re-dead army, and pursued the Dirvum who was now in command. After tearing through the guards with a few swift strokes from his blade, Altarion smashed down the door of the Citadel. The commanding officer heard the disruption, and disconnected from the Citadel’s enhanced Tryna. Altarion, having the advantage of an Elemental power, made quick work of the malicious commander with a quick lightning bolt to the head. However, his presence was now known to the rest of the Citadel’s living crew, who would be upon Altarion soon. Without hesitation, Altarion sprinted to the control room’s main station and replaced his own Kanohi with the Mask of Reanimation, which was connected to tubes and wires that fed into the Citadel’s inner workings. Concentrating, Altarion managed to command the bodies of the guards, the commander, and some of the corpse army that was still onboard to rally to the control room, killing all in their way. Soon, the entire Citadel was purged of all life, save that of Altarion, and the half-alive legion of reanimated bodies, if what they had could be called life. Solemnly, Altarion disconnected from the Kanohi, and watched as the remains around him returned to their timeless sleep. The threat of Ruos and his army was over.

Here he is! I'm quite pleased with the build, but I'm even happier with the character. Next to Drusus, Ruos is my favorite Apocalypse member.

Ruos' energy shield is an expensive racing-grade prototype. It is lighter than conventional shields, and more absorbent of a projectile's impact.

Ruos's racing armor goes directly over his Toa armor, as required by the official racing leagues. As a result, most racing frames are extremely light and built for speed, not safety.

In addition to high speeds and light armor, Bio-racers are permitted to use melee weaponry against their opponents. Needless to say, Bio-racing involves many serious injuries. Ruos' racing blade is tipped with an energized portion, which allows it to effectively strike energy shields and slice through armor.

Most of the racing frame's bulk is at the legs. Highly tuned motors allow for leg movement to be much faster than without the armor.

In addition to enhanced leg motion, the boots are wheeled and equipped with jet engines.

And what racing suit would be complete without a jet pack?

The Kakama-shaped back armor houses a power supply for the racing frame, and its shape is a tribute to the first Bio-racers (who were permitted to use Kanohi at the time).

I feel the need for speed!

The Apocalypse so far.

Well, there you have it! Up next will be the Apocalypse member of Ice. Thanks for viewing, and let me know what you think!

All in good time. We're trying to write our story in chronological order (ish), so the Ghetta Nui events will come after the Apocalypse members are all finished. Once that happens, I'm planning on re-making Cossy and finishing the Ghetta Nui story.

Extremely nice bit of story-telling, Cody. I think wheeled MOCs are tough to pull off in general (when they're Bipeds without stands), but you've clearly done an effective job here. I like the armor additions and weapons array specifically adhering to your Story idea; shows alot of methodic pre-planning - i.m.h.o. a sign of great Skill. CHEERS!!!
