Back in Germany I have started my new project which I call “Battlestar Titan”.
About this creation
Since I posted the final pic's of the Seterra, approx 12 months have passed. In these 12 months I teared down the Seterra -which took me approx 4 months- and organised my relocation from China to my home in Germany. I can tell you, tearing down the Seterra was a lot of work... more than I expected.
The Project Battlestar Titan I started in January this year. It will become also a huge SHIP, but currently no ideas, where I will end up size wise. Guess somewhere around 4 m in length.
What you see in the following pic's is one of 2 side-extensions the Titan will have. In each of the side-extensions, 2 hangars are placed. The first hangar in the left side extension will be connected to the first in the right extension and the 2nd hangar in the left to the 2nd in the right extension.
The basic idea of these extensions is similar to the Seterra. But in difference to the Seterra the side extensions will be longer, higher, wider and.... curved. As the bottom as well as the top of the extensions will be curved and because I want to build the Titan without any metal or wooden inner support skeleton, I use a special technique to combine 8X16 or 8X8 bricks with each other.
But everything starts with the Lego-skeleton. Here you see one of the 64 (16 each for the bottom and the upper part, times 2 for 2 extensions) supports which will give the side extension it’s curved shape.
The next picture shows how I combine the 8X16 bricks to achieve a good stability of the “backbone”.
To give the side extensions the stability they need I use technic bricks which are connected with each other, horizontal as well as vertical. The same technique I will use for the main body as well, but without curved areas.
Following you see how the side extensions have developed, from the bottom part only to a mainly finished hull with a bottom and top part. The extensions are 230 studs long and 36 studs wide. I will cover everything with tiles to make sure the whole SHIP will be as stud less as possible.
This is the “nose” of the side extensions, combining different angles with each other. This section took me a while to built, as I had to find the right angles and parts to make sure the gaps are as small as possible.
The side extensions are equipped with Turbo Laser’s in the front part of the extensions as well as between the 2 Hangar sections.
I am looking forward to see it complete. though it is quite sad that Seterra is gone, because it was one of greatest Battlestars and ships in general on MOCpages. Maybe I missed your reply, but I would like to recommend you to make some interior in this one. It may be hard, but I am sure you can handle it. I am aslo glad that you added framework pictures, because it is crucial to build such large ship. Wishing all the best :D
I was busy with a lot of other topics in the past months, so the development of the project could be better. Anyhow I made some adjustments of a few elements I wasn't so happy with and started to built the second side extension. Both side extensions are meanwhile connected. Will try to post some pic's in the comming week's.
Beautiful. You astound me with the detail you include on these ships. Awesome technique for the curved plates. I like the command deck in the front. It's a variant of what I'm using on the front end of a micro ship that I am putting the finishing touches on right now. I was thinking that nobody else had used that idea. Oh, well. Great minds, huh?
a cool technic here we see! looks really stabil in the middle section. But are you kidding us :-) ? This is only one of the side hangars????? Seems like you will set a new benchmark in building spaceships....
After Johnathan's 99 EPICS What can I say.....Oh yer.... When you build big you go out all the way. Love your technique in construction. Looking spectacular as ever... Well done on the start of another overwhelmingly spectacular build.
