Upon touching the mask of life, Vezon was cursed, but to what extent could this curse affect him. Before Fenrakk came along, Vezon was on his own and not powerful enough to fend off attackers so the mask fixed that. It stretched his small form to over twice his original size and this power caused the more primal, brutish side of him to appear. The Skakdi have always had spines and it seems that this influx of power caused Vezon's to finally appear. His form was monstrous and nightmarish for people to gaze upon. For a long time, he was in this form and could fend off beings that tried to take the mask away from him. When a Fenrakk Spawn emerged near him, the mask used it's power to transform it into the monstrous Fenrakk and Vezon's power was contained within this new guardian. (Just an idea on what the mask might've done to Vezon if Fenrakk wasn't there right away.)
