MOC off: Deus the Architect vs Daniel Brilliant: Nyeba, the Aspect of Air
It's on! Deus and I are having a dragon MOC off!
About this creation
Rules:
# Parts efficiency, the fewer the parts the better.
# Detailing.
# Shape and body proportions.
# Innovative design elements.
# Expression of evil.
# Size matters, the bigger the better.

Each category will be scored from 1-10. Maximum overall score is obviously 60 points. Highest overall score wins.

With her three heads, Nyeba may appear somewhat ungainly, but she is impossible to sneak up on and able to shoot lightning in almost any direction.

I wanted to do something that departed from my previous work, so I added a couple of extra heads. With that in mind I figured that the body would need to be designed to accommodate the extra weight in the front so I based the body on a brachiosaurus.

I structured the wing segments by using perpendicular bricks and I made them transparent. I really like the way that worked out, especially in the photoshopped pics.

Looking at Deus's work I knew that I was in trouble in the the efficiency category. Smaug used 3559 parts and each neck and tail segment used about 50 parts. So, I went back to the drawing board and devised a method for articulating the neck and tail that uses about half as many parts. The panel pieces in the neck and tail informed the styling in the rest of the body.

As for “expression of evil” I adapted the technique from Smaug and gave it a look more consistent with the rest of the styling.

A poor brave knight ventures into Nyeba's cave to dispatch her.

I hope that you like your knights crispy fried, because Nyeba has lightning breath.

As for size, this picture shows the relative sizes of various dragons, ending in a mounted knight. Nyeba is not quite as big as Smaug, but she is still quite large.

Quoting claw paradox cool! i think that the body is slightly bigger than a minifig-scale brachiosaurus body.
Probably true, but the size estimates for the dinosaurs are only estimates. Some recent work suggests that the amount of soft tissue between the vertebra has been underestimated, making almost all dinosaurs larger than originally expected.

Now that is a fantastic dragon! The three heads and transparent wings are some very original ideas. The shape of the body and other details are really well done too :-)

Superb dragon you have here ! Also a cool detail for changing the colours of the eyes on each head ! The only thing I was afraid of in this challange were the wings . In LDD you get to choose different blocks that might not even exist or are hard to find in real life . But than again the wings were another challange for me ! I have actually no idear how this competion will end because our two dragon are so much different ! The only thing i can say is : 'May the best legohead win ! '

Quoting cyberfrank 2010 I ve worked with ldd and it s nothing if not arduous work, it s not easy doing what you did, most people think it s easier, the lack of ratings have something to do with the pictures as well, they don t look as good with ldd, the elements and colors don t come out as good or as defined, it s sometimes hard to see what pieces where used, on that topic what did you use for parts as transparent wings? it looks fabulous, and 3 heads is a welcome novelty, really one of the best looking dragons I ve seen to date!
Thanks Cyberfrank! It is true, sometimes it can be very frustrating trying to get a piece to fit that you know should, but the program just won't let it attach. As for the parts used in the wings, it is just a bunch of 1x2x5 and 1x6x5 wall bricks turned sideways. There are a few 1x1x5s and then the angled parts are the big 1x6x5, part #30249. I used those to help cut down on parts used for the contest, but they would also lower the weight because they are hallow. They are stacked alternately so as to add strength to the structure, but it happens to create the cool pattern that you see. I've also attached my LDD file, as always, so you can deconstruct my creation and reverse engineer the techniques.

Quoting Flicker The Awesome I LOVE IT!!! although youl probably lose, DEFINETLY not because its bad, because the stupid pepole HATE ldd! its unfair!! btw, do you know where mah jaw went???
Well, the fact that it was made in LDD shouldn't hurt it in this contest since it was set out in the rules at the beginning that digital entries were ok and of equal worth. Also, the judge himself has made dragons in LDD before. About your jaw... I'm sorry I haven't seen it.

Quoting Nathan Brainbuilder Yeah I totally understand about the 'digital bias'. Btw, are those backgrounds copyrighted?
I'm not sure, but I'm always careful to acknowledge the source whenever I use one. For the most part pictures placed freely on the internet are not well protected by the law unless they are part of someone's trademark or if the person copying it tries to claim it as their own.

Holy mothballs in a can! This thing is absolutely amazing, even for an LDD design! Good luck, though at this point it seems Deus may not even have a chance... but he's Deus, he could pull anything, so, I guess we'll have to wait and see!

Quoting Eragon Bromson How do you get the white background? i use ctrl+k but when i upload it automatically inverts it to black
I've found that when using the transparent backgrounds, they show up with a white backdrop when posted on my page, but on the main page they show up with a black background. I'm not sure why that is. If you want it to have one color consistently, then just create a blank canvas of one color in paint or photoshop or wherever, and then add the *.png of your creation as another layer. Then you still get the clean look, but you can control the background color.

Quoting Paul Romano I don't normally comment on LDD creations, but this one stands out. I'm most impressed with your head design - it's very clever! Deus is going to have his hands full, that's for sure :)
Thanks you. I know that many people out there don't usually comment on LDD creations. I get that comment a lot. While I'm glad that my work impelled you to make an exception, it is somewhat disheartening to see that there is so much anti-digital bias out there. I don't think that it is coincidence or lack of skill that makes it so that the most popular digital creations ever never make it passed ~60-70 likes. It is almost impossible to get up there and it is obvious that the playing field is not at all level.

This looks promising for the MOC off! I´m excited that you´ve used Smaug as the template. When Deus has posted his creation, the competition topic will be unlocked and the results will be posted in that topic. When the results are posted I will notify you both by email...so stay tuned!

Beautiful design. I love the three heads, the color selection, and the scales in your creation. Good luck! Take it to Deus!
