Meanwhile in The Skylark, Blast was zooming towards a planet he didn’t recognize and had just entered the atmosphere.
A few minutes later and he had landed gently. He sat staring out of the cockpit window at the view. He was on a beach somewhere. Perfect blue sea, golden sandy beaches, a lush green forest and mountains in the distance. He frowned, got up and walked to the back of the ship.
He opened the door and walked down the ramp onto the sand and looked around.
It was gorgeous. The sort of place anybody would want to live. Paradise.
‘Oh well.’ He thought to himself. ‘At least she sent me somewhere nice.’
The only thing that spoilt the picture was the crashed ship just behind where he had landed. He turned to look at it. Two words crossed his mind. ‘Spare parts.’
He’d had a look at the communication system on The Skylark while he was still flying and discovered that there was a whole section missing. That’s why it wasn’t working. Jelli had removed it, but she was no mechanic and so she had only taken out the basic parts. The bits that could be found on any ship. He smiled and walked towards it with the sound of waves lapping against the shore filling his ears.
“We’re exiting hyperspace now sir.” An F.I.S. Captain told Iadsgb on The Desolation’s bridge.
“Very good captain.” Iadsgb said as they jetted back into normal space. There in front of them was the U.R.S..
“Dock us with The Manipulator captain.” Iadsgb said and turned to walk off the bridge.
“They’re here.” Nightblaze said, returning from The Valentine and walking onto The Manipulator’s bridge to join the others.
“Well everybody.” Padfoot said as they all stood up. “It’s been an honor working with you all and fighting alongside you has been a great pleasure.”
“Agreed.” Falcon nodded and there was a chorus of agreements and ‘hear-hear’s.
A couple of minutes later and the boarding corridors had joined The Desolation and The Manipulator together and the F.I.S. leaders marched triumphantly down one of them and into the U.R.S. flagship, Iadsgb in the lead.
They marched through the cruiser and everywhere they went the U.R.S. troops backed off. Iadsgb grinned as he looked around at the defeated soldiers.
“Cheer up!” he teased a young troop as they walked by. “After all; it is the end of the war!” a couple of the F.I.S. leaders chuckled and the young troop backed up against the wall out of the way.
The bridge doors swooshed open and Iadsgb, Jamie, Fixer, Stallion, Callum, Biosnake and Eve swooped in.
Padfoot, Flare, Jelli, Falcon, Nightblaze, Hess, Slash and Shock stood in formation facing them. The F.I.S. leaders stopped as the doors closed behind them.
“So.” Iadsgb said with a smile after a moment. “Where’s Blast?” he looked around the faces of the leaders, who all held their helmets under their arms, and once again his eyes rested on Jelli for a moment longer than everyone else.
“Blast has… left us.” Padfoot said blandly.
“Really?!” Iadsgb said in mock surprise. “Well! He wasn’t much of a leader then was he?! So; Blast left you and so you’re deciding to surrender? Is that it?”
There was a moment’s silence and then Padfoot replied, “Yes.”
“Well.” Iadsgb sighed. “Why do you all look so sad? It’s the end of the war! No more fighting!” he looked around at all of the mournful faces. “Aw… dear.” He pulled a fake sad face. “Is it really that bad? Loosing?” he teased and slowly his sad face turned into an evil grin.
“Lock them up.” He suddenly commanded.
Back on the strange but beautiful planet, Blast was inside the wrecked ship searching for the parts he needed to repair The Skylark’s communication system. He found his way onto the bridge and started rummaging around in the wire boxes.
“Ah ha.” He muttered to himself as he lay on his back half inside the inner workings of the ship. He emerged with a fistful of wires and a small box in his other hand.
“Perfect.” He crawled out and stood up then drooped out of a hole in the side of the ship and landed with a gentle thud in the soft sand.
The wind had got up while he had been inside and now clouds filled the sky. He looked up at them as he walked back towards his shuttle but stopped as he noticed something odd.
A strange trail of the cloud was stretching downwards from the sky and was getting even closer at an alarming speed.
The rear end of the cloud detached from the cloud and started to fade, like a fighter’s vapor trail. He frowned and suddenly it sped up and with lightning fast speed it flew down and hit the ground in front of Blast. There was an enormous smoke explosion and suddenly the black started turning purple and Blast fell backwards into the sand and Bisvernicof emerged.
“Congratulations Blast.” He said as the smoke faded and he was left with just a few bits of purple clinging onto his robes. “You finished the war.” He smiled.
“No. I didn’t. I was betrayed.” R.K. said standing up.
“Yes. But the war has ended anyway.”
“What?” Blast was confused.
“It has ended. Your team has surrendered to the Iadsgb. It’s over.”
“No. No, no NO!” Blast shouted. “Why?” he asked desperately.
“Because you’re not there. They believe you abandoned them saying there was no hope.”
“But Jelli! Jelli betrayed me! Don’t they know?”
“No. It was her who said you’d abandoned them.” The OvaSeer answered.
“They don’t know anything about what happened between you two. And so they have just turned themselves in and the F.I.S. is currently boarding your U.R.S. ships to take everyone prisoner.”
“No.” Blast whispered. “I have to talk to Padfoot.” He said and walked past the ancient towards The Skylark.
“Blast. The war is over. Don’t start it again. If you tell them what really happened then you will be going back on your word to me. You will have failed your final chance.” Blast froze at the words but then said, “I have to.” And continued into his shuttle.
Bisvernicof looked on. “So be it.” He said and exploded in another whirl of purple smoke.
Hess looked down at his hands as Callum placed binders on his wrists. The same had happened to all of the other leaders and now they stood waiting to be told what to do next.
Iadsgb was in a private conversation with Jamie in the corner of the bridge but then turned back to face them.
“Right. We’re now going to go over to your other cruiser,”
“The Valentine.” Padfoot corrected.
“The Valentine?” Iadsgb asked. “What sort of a name is that?! Anyway, we’re going over to The Valentine to take care of the captains over there. And while we’re gone you’re all going to stay here. Understood?”
“Good.” He left the room followed by the other F.I.S. leaders and when the door shut, everyone still on the bride could here it locking from the other side.
Everything was silent for a moment. Then suddenly the holo-projector started beeping in the corner of the room.
Padfoot walked over and awkwardly with his bound hands turned it on.
A flickering image of Blast appeared. He had fixed the communication system. Jelli’s eyes widened and she surreptitiously moved behind everyone, out of sight next to the door.
“Padfoot!” Blast cried out. “Don’t surrender!”
“It’s too late for that Blast.” Padfoot glared at him. “You left us. We were leaderless. We had no other options.”
“I didn’t leave you! I was thrown out!”
“By who exactly?” Padfoot didn’t believe him and the rest of the leaders watched on. “Who exactly threw you out ‘ey Blast?”
In the cramped cockpit of The Skylark Blast pointed to the back of the group of leaders and slowly everyone turned to see where he was pointing.
Jelli stood there, helpless as all eyes came to rest on her.
“Jelli?” Padfoot asked cautiously.
“She was the one who was sending all of those files to the F.I.S.. I caught her in the middle of it and followed her to the hanger bay where she turned on me and left me to jet away in a shuttle to some pre-set co-ordinates!” told Blast and Jelli stood, eyes wide watching everyone staring at her.
Falcon stared wide-eyed and open-mouthed at her. “Jelli? Is it true?” She didn’t reply, she just stood looking terrified, surrounded by all the men.
“You traitorous bitch!” Flare snarled but just at that moment the doors unlocked and swooshed open and Iadsgb came back in.
“I forgot to say…” he started but then stopped as he spotted Blast’s hologram and everyone staring at Jelli. “Woops.” He mumbled.
“Time to go!” he grabbed Jelli’s arm and yanked her after him off of the bridge and re-locked the door behind them,
as all the U.R.S. leaders bar Falcon inside all charged at them and started hammering against the door and shouting through it at them.
Falcon stumbled backwards a step, completely aghast at what had just transpired and held onto the railing for support.
