Drusus

Drusus was once an Av-Matoran, but at a young age, he was drained of his light by a Kanohi Avsa. Many Matoran shunned him for losing his light, thinking that he was corrupt or even diseased, but his older sister took him in and cared for him. Despite his condition, his sister, an Av-Matoran who was very strong in her element, taught Drusus right from wrong, and he was spared from the corrupting influence of Shadow. He grew to be tolerated, and even accepted by most Matoran in his village. When the Order of Mata Nui heard of this Shadow Matoran who was not evil, they were extremely interested, and put Drusus under observation and training at a local base. When the Order was convinced that Drusus was not corrupted by his element, they decided to make him a Toa.
Drusus became a very powerful warrior, but was not assigned a team. Instead, he was assigned with a variety of teams, wherever a mission required his unique powers. He became highly renowned among the Order of Mata Nui, and was even in consideration for the title, “Lord of Shadow”, which was dropped due to the element’s ominous history. Instead, Drusus became the Order’s best-kept secret, helping behind the scenes when no one else could.
When Drusus learned that his sister became ill, he took leave from the Order of Mata Nui to visit her. Her condition was much worse than he initially thought, and so he went to the Order for help in saving her. However, the Order did not know how to cure her illness, and she was declared terminal. Drusus, however, would not accept this. He had heard of a powerful being that dwelled in the desert, and he set out to make a deal.
The Makuta Shakahv graciously offered Drusus healing of his sister in exchange for a lifetime of servitude. Drusus hated to abandon the Order of Mata Nui, but he would stop at nothing to save his sister, who loved him when nobody else would. Shakahv and Drusus set out to Drusus’ old village, but when they arrived, they saw only wreckage. All the houses were burned to the ground, bodies were everywhere, and the occasional Bone Hunter weapon lay scattered within the walls. Drusus was crushed. Sympathetically, Shakahv brought the Toa away from the rubble and began the journey back to the Dark Toa’s canyon stronghold. Shakahv looked back at the village, and sent an approving glance to the small team of his Dark Toa servants who were the real cause of the village’s downfall.
In the service of Shakahv, Drusus was obedient but empty of emotion. The death of his sister turned Drusus into an apathetic machine; simply doing as he was told with neither restraint nor relish. Shakahv gave Drusus a staff called the Staff of Darkness, which allowed Drusus to solidify the shadows he conjured into weapons, armor, or whatever else he wished. With this weapon, despite his apathy, Drusus became a very effective soldier. When Zethlin demanded that Drusus abandon Shakahv, Drusus agreed without much complaint. He escaped with Zethlin when Shakahv was destroyed, and he became a member of the Apocalypse, a team of Dark Toa that was bent on the destruction of Spherus Magna.
When the Apocalypse allied themselves with the mountain-dwelling Dirvum and began the Campaign for Spherus Magna, Drusus was given a walking Citadel, with the firepower to destroy buildings and fortresses as well as the technology to make a simple Tryna have the power to raise an entire army from the grave. Following orders, Drusus obliterated many cities, and gained new corpses for his legion. Drusus never suffered defeat, but he always spared those who surrendered. “It would be a waste of ammunition to eliminate someone who is not a threat,” he would tell Zethlin.
When Drusus reached New Po-Koro with two other, airborne Citadels, he sighed. New Po-Koro was a massive city, fortified by mountains and thick walls of stone. With the other two citadels, Drusus was sure to defeat the fortress, but many Toa and innocent Matoran would fall protecting it. As the Citadels approached the city and began to deploy troops, something happened that Drusus did not expect. The gates of New Po-Koro opened, and hundreds of Glatorian-built vehicles poured out of the city, punching through the undead hordes, heading straight for the walking Citadel. Toa were standing in and on the vehicles, slashing and blasting their way past Drusus’ defenses. The Citadel’s cannons destroyed many vehicles, and many more were overrun by the reanimated legion, but a few managed to make it to the Citadel, and Toa began to climb up the legs and onto the main deck.
Dewan of the Toa Lotem was with the Toa, but instead of attacking the gun turrets on the Citadel as the other Toa were doing, Dewan turned towards the Citadel’s control room. She fought her way up the levels and spires of the Citadel, until the door of the control room stood before her. Using her power over water, she cut the hinges with the contents of a small flask she was carrying. The speeding, blade-like water Dewan controlled sliced through the metal, and kicked down the door.
Drusus heard the disturbance, and disconnected himself with the Tryna that controlled the hordes, replacing it with his Ruru. Dewan readied her blade, but Drusus made no move against her. He thought she was the most beautiful thing he had seen since he last laid eyes on his sister. “You do not know the power that I possess,” Drusus said. “Leave now and your life may still be spared.”
Dewan had fought many evils before, yet none had shown her this kind of tolerance. “You do not seem like the kind of creature that would destroy the free Spherus Magna,” She said. “You do not have to go through with this.” Drusus sighed, and approached Dewan with his staff raised. However, he could not strike her. Dewan reminded him too much of his sister. Dewan took Drusus’ hand, and calmed him as he broke down. Realizing the evil that he had committed, Drusus was struck with grief. When he finally arose, he was the Toa that he once was: strong, brave, and good, despite the darkness.
Drusus apologized to Dewan, and then reassured her that he would help to rectify the wrong he had done. He instructed Dewan to help her fellow Toa commandeer the gun decks while he returned to the control room’s Tryna. Dewan returned to her comrades, and freed up enough cannons to target one of the flying citadels. Drusus commanded his army to attack the other Citadel’s legions, and with the combined force of the Citadel’s guns, the reanimated warriors, and the element of surprise, Drusus made quick work of the first airborne Citadel. As it crashed to the ground, however, the other Citadel began to target Drusus’s fortress. Within seconds, Drusus’ fortress became disabled. The control room’s tower broke, sending Drusus flying off the Citadel. Drusus used his staff to protect himself from the impact, but watched in horror as the rest of the Citadel exploded under the fire of the remaining airship. Dewan, and the rest of the Toa on board, were surely dead.
The airborne Citadel saw Drusus in the wreckage, and picked him up. Drusus reported to the Dirvum General who was controlling the Citadel, and claimed that the Toa had overwhelmed his Citadel, and that he was powerless to stop them. The Dirvum scoffed, and returned to his control of the undead hordes. With most of the Toa already dead, the Dirvum would make quick work of New Po-Koro. Drusus hesitated, then approached the commander and stabbed him in the back. The reanimated battalions fell limp, and New Po-Koro was safe once more. Drusus piloted the Citadel on a path towards a nearby mountain, and then created for himself wings of solid shadow. He leaped off the Citadel and flew away into the desert while the massive war machine collided with solid stone.
Drusus landed at Shakahv’s old canyon fortress, which was now abandoned. He returned to his old quarters, and revisited some past memories. He collected a few of his old belongings, and walked towards the door. As he was heading out, however, Drusus heard a tiny sound from deep within Shakahv’s fortress. He followed a long, dark tunnel, and the whisper turned into a hum, which turned into a rumble, until he was finally at the source of the noise. In the deepest dungeon of Shakahv’s lair, where no Toa, Dark or otherwise, had entered, there lay a captured beast, unlike any Drusus had seen before.
The creature was massive, greater even than some of the wild Rahi of the jungle, and shone brightly in the darkness with golden scales. In spite of its size, however, the creature appeared very weak. Drusus marveled at how long the creature managed to survive in the dungeon, as Shakahv had died many months ago. Clearly the beast, a Dune Lizard, was of the desert, and did not require much sustenance. Drusus left the beast in search of food, and quickly returned to nurse the creature back to health. At first the beast was fearful of Drusus, but the offering of food was too much to resist, and so the beast took to Drusus. Thus, a bond was made, and Drusus named the beast Harenan.
Drusus left with Harenan after the Dune Lizard was well enough to travel, and they took to living in the desert, among the mountains. Drusus despised violence now, and so he stayed isolated from the world, which seemed too full of hate. However, when violence found Drusus’ home and there was no avoiding it, Drusus would fight for the side of good, in honor of the Toa he had fought alongside, and in honor of his sister.

Here he is, folks! He was a difficult build, but I am pleased with the result.

Drusus is one of the most emotional characters in Ben and my story. That said, he is also one of my favorite characters.

The Staff of Darkness is an ancient artifact that was created by a Matoran who was forced to serve a dangerous Makuta. The Makuta wanted a tool that could enhance his power over Shadow to create solid weapons, armor, and tools. The Matoran was clever, though, and he created the Staff to work poorly for a Makuta, and would only be truly effective in the hands of a Toa. When word of this got out, the Makuta was confronted by two Toa of Shadow who took the Staff and used it to defeat him. Since then, it has been kept safe by the Order of Mata Nui until it was stolen by Makuta Shakahv to make Drusus more powerful.

When Drusus is fighting formidable opponents, he uses the Staff of Darkness to create a behemoth suit of armor out of solid Shadow, that protects him and enhances his physical strength.

Drusus' Ruru seems ironic, but it is actually quite effective for combat. With it, Drusus can fight in total darkness, while his opponents swing blindly into the shadows.

I'm not incredibly happy with the arm design, but I managed to use those claw feet, which makes it totally worth it. The fancy hubcap piece is held in by friction.

Legs. Somewhat fragile, but decently flexible. The Hero Factory armor on the upper leg can lift up slightly for more extreme poses, although it gets slightly wobbly.

Back. The tentacles are supposed to be wisps of solidified Shadow, which Drusus likes to have as a sort of cape-like accessory.

Use your words, not your fists.

When words fail, a big stick is a good alternative.

Bring it!

Drusus and Caetissa.

Two down! What does that leave, five more plus Zethlin? I'm going to be stuck in Bionicle mode for a while, not only with the builds, but with those stories! They're kind of exhausting, but writing a long story helps me feel like I know the character a bit more, and that is good for filling in the gaps of Ben and my universe. Stay tuned for the next Apocalypse member! Thanks for viewing, and let me know what you think!

I absolutely love the MOC, it's really well built and solid (good colors too!). Brilliant work with that staff. The one thing I don't like is the tentacles coming off of his shoulders. They don't really match the theme of the whole character. Overall, a brilliant MOC!

Very nice work - love that custom AXE. Sweet bit of Style, there. The only bit of greeble I don't care for is the gold wheel on the reverse forearm. But the silhouette is awesome, and the rest of the build is great enough to make it a minor nitpick. Cheers!

One of your coolest-looking characters yet! Maybe not the best build, but certainly a great build, I love those black wisps of shadow on his back, and the colors scheme. Plus, the story line is magnificent! Great job overall with this one!

You sir, need to write a novel. You can keep anyone interested in anything that you write. As the build. You did a fantastic job hiding the Av-matoran body. I didn't notice it until someone pointed it out.

Thanks! I think that the Av-Matoran body, as well as a lot of other torsos, are given a bad rep because so many people use the Ignika torso. The other Torsos are more difficult to use, and the end result ends up looking better than most people would think. And thank you for your kind words on the story! I don't think I have the patience to write an entire novel though. Perhaps a novelist will stumble across my page and ask to write one for me. :)

Quoting Parrington Levens That Dursus is in spectacular proportion! Looks solid and graceful at the same time. I've been looking at super Mechs too long... Great color scheme too, for an AFOL ;)
Thanks, Parrington! The color grouping was actually kind of a happy accident. ;)

I really liked the story. I'm not one of those who enjoy action, but more of the emotional schemes with their effects and this is a good one for that purpose. Drusus reminds me a lot of Monarth in a sense, except for Monarth's ability to use shadow to a mucher further extent, but the certain corruption in heart is similar in a way between the two. Anyhoof, I like the work here. I'm not that much into toas these days, but the combination of this creation and the story really make it something worthy of a look ^_^

Lovely work! Really digging his overall look, nice addition with the shadows wisps :D Lovely work on his leg design aswell as the staff :) Also I love that you haven't given him claws, really works well for his character despite the fact he's evil :) I do hope the building each member in Toa form and writing up the stories isn't getting to be a paint for you man! First-sight, it seems a normal HF MOC. But if you look better, you can see an incredible MOC, very worked and without gasps. Congratulations! But let me give you a tip: that Rocka's chest lines can be erased with nail polish remover, without damaging the part. Trust me! ;D
