So there was this kid once, way back in the day, he used to go around naming cities after himself. Sounds like a plan.
About this creation
With three large projects currently stalled in various stages of incompletion, I figured I needed to change focus: think small. I've long been intrigued by the various microscale creations by talented MOCers out there, but this is my first foray into the microscale world. So welcome to the few square blocks at the north end of Shannonia's Oceanside Strip, famed in story and song...

The Shannonia Chamber of Commerce recommends starting your tour at the city's most striking visual landmark, the Honeybee Casino. To the left, the new Trancequility Club has quickly become the city's hottest nightspot.

Don't get too crazy, though. That there's the courthouse, home of the Man.

I can crush a good chunk of your downtown core along with its sweet, juicy tax base in the palm of my hand. Damn right you name the city after me.

Reputed to be the site of the log cabin where the illustrious town founder was born. Now a tacky curio and memorabilia shop.

The Monolith Hotel. Big, ugly, cheap. Average Yahoo traveler's rating: 2 stars.

Shannonia Public Library and Shannonia Art Museum. In the foreground are beachside surf shops/taco stands/whatever.

We recommend the helicopter tour for the best views of the city.

The venerable Oceanview Inn, a historic landmark. 24 fully appointed luxury suites, second home to the rich and famous everywhere. Average waiting list time: 6-8 months.

Heading north on Ocean Avenue. Not named after that "other" Shannon, though he likes to impress people at parties by saying it is.

The ever-popular "police helicopter shining a powerful searchlight down onto Oceanview Park looking for drug deals" shot.

The Saturn Tower revolving restaurant: making patrons ill by spinning too fast since 1984.

Second Avenue, looking out to sea. I thought about trying my hand at some sort of sunset mosaic to put behind the MOC. But I didn't think very hard about it.

The obligatory skyline shot, available on postcards in every shop and lobby in town.

Before you leave, be sure to make time to visit the Temple of the Brick, one of the holiest sites in Shannonia.

On behalf of the citizens of Shannonia, the Chamber of Commerce says thank you, hope you enjoyed your stay, come again, and tell your friends!

Did you worry about scale of buildings?
I do not. As long as each particular building looks good on its own and isn't too much out of whack with its neighbors, it's good enough for me. If it helps you to stick with a "1 stud = X feet or meters" formula, go for it. I can't build that way.

Not my scale, but it is an excellent job. You managed to cram an incredible amount of detail into the design - so much so that when I first looked at the thumbnail I thought it was a minifig scale design. Beyond good for your first attempt; however, if you keep setting the bar this high for yourself... Lee. |

Very impressive detail on such a small scale. I'm interested in the photography technique you used. How did you get such detailed close-ups without losing focus? |
