These pictures show the design process of some of my 4-wide models. I use to start building the models in LDD before I start with the "real" bricks. One of my favourite features of LDD is the unlimited number of bricks available.

This way I can build a lot of different versions of the same model and keep them all in one file. At any stage of the design process I can get back to an idea I had earlier and combine details of different versions to get a new one.

I've already posted some pictures of the design process of my Bugatti Veyron and my Shelby Cobra earlier. Now it's time for pictures of some more models...

The Lamborghini Countach LP400 was the first 4-wide I built based on a real model. The first version already looked OK, but the model was too short. So I added 1 stud in the wheelbase. After that the design didn't change a lot until getting the "final" version.

Then I started with the F40 which is still one of my all-time favourite Ferraris. After changing the front I already was quite satisfied. After that I only made some "cosmetic" changes on the rear end.

The Testarossa was next. Once I decided to use the "grill bricks" for the side panels the biggest change was the new front end. After trying a lot of different versions I came back to the design I had already used for the F40. After that I only retouched the roofline a little.

Then I started the Audi TT MkI. The design process was almost painful as it just didn't want to look right. After some bigger redesigns I finally found a shape that I was satisfied with. The whole design process took many months with some intermediate models standing on the shelf for a few weeks before I started again.

These were my first 4 cars I built with LDD. I ordered the V1.0 of these models as a LEGO DESIGNbyME set at the LEGO store. These were the first models I built with real bricks after some time of virtual design and they were my first real MOCs after my dark ages, too.

The 007 Lotus Esprit was one of the next models I built and it was part of my second DESIGNbyMe set. Of course, I had to build a submarine version of the model, too.

The VW T1 Camper Van is another of my long term projects. I have already been quite satisfied with some earlier versions, but I always get some new ideas for it. There are many builders which continue making 4-wide VW busses, so it never gets boring :-))

The Porsche 911 was one of the first models I started to design. But I just had no good idea for the front, especially for the headlights. So I stopped and restarted the design of this model many times. When I found a solution for the front, the rest was quite easy.

Then there was the DeLorean from the "Back to the Future" movies. I wanted to have opening gullwing doors so I started the design with them (top row on the left) and built the rest of the model around them. Then I went out of ideas and stopped the design for some months and built some other models. I also wanted to add a hover mode, but I couldn't find a mechanism small enough for a 4-wide model (see the upper row for some of the designs). So I first built a 4-wide model without the hover mode and later a 5-wide with it :-))
