A little while later and Padfoot and Jelli had rounded up the other leaders and assembled them all on The Manipulator’s bridge.
“Fellow leaders.” Padfoot started with Jelli at his side, facing the other six U.R.S. leaders. All of them had noticed that Blast was not among them.
“I’ve called this meeting because something has just occurred that could potentially be disastrous.” He looked around the sleepy and worried faces of his comrades and continued, “Our supposedly great leader, Blast, has deserted us.” The leaders all froze and various expressions of shock appeared on all the their faces. Padfoot continued in a sad tone.

“Jelli caught him in the act of running away. Apparently he told her that we were doomed to loose the war. He said that we don’t stand a chance.”

“Blast would never do that.” Falcon said in defense.
“Well,” Padfoot replied, “He just did.”

Jelli looked at the floor and shuffled her feet; one of only two people who knew the truth. The other person being Blast himself, out in space jetting away to some unknown destination.

R.K. had finally broken out of his trance and managed to stumble into the cockpit and collapse into the pilots seat.
He checked all of the monitors and tried unsuccessfully to work out where he was going. He attempted to put he ship into ‘manual flight’ mode but it just continued on its pre-set course. He activated the communication system and attempted to contact the U.R.S. fleet but it appeared that Jelli had disabled the whole system. Blast was helpless, stranded in a small shuttle, flying away to some unknown place with no way of contacting anyone at all.

“So we need to discuss what we’re going to do.” Padfoot carried on speaking. “Personally I think that I could lead you. Take over as the head of the U.R.S., but you may not want that. This is what we have to sort out.”
“We can’t carry on without Blast.” Hess said. “I’m not being mean Padfoot, but I don’t think you would fit the role of our leader.”
Padfoot nodded, acknowledging the words.
“Agreed.” Nightblaze said solemnly. There were a few more nods and murmurs of agreement.
“Very well. So what do we do?” Padfoot asked, disappointed.

“We’ll have to hand ourselves in.” Jelli said and everyone looked at her. Nobody had considered this problem of not having a leader. “Without anyone to lead us, we can’t do anything. We’ll have to surrender. We can’t carry on without Blast.”
“I won’t.” Flare suddenly said. “When I joined the U.R.S. I was expecting a long war that we would eventually win. Not to have to suddenly hand ourselves over to the enemy.”
“Have you any ideas as to what other options there are?” Padfoot asked him and after a moment he fell silent.

“So this is it then is it? The end of the U.R.S.? Were going to surrender to the F.I.S.?” Padfoot checked. Everyone was silent.

“Then this is the end. It’s over. This truly is a sad day.” Padfoot said sadly and walked over to the bridge’s holo-projector. He typed in the code for The Desolation and waited while the other leaders looked on solemnly.

An image suddenly flickered into life on the projector.
“Iadsgb.” Padfoot greeted.
“Ah. Greetings Padfoot. What can I do for you?” Iadsgb asked from his private quarters.
Padfoot said nothing for a moment and Iadsgb frowned. Then he spoke. “As acting leader of the United Rebelling Systems and official second in command, we have decided to surrender to the F.I.S..”
Iadsgb’s eyes widened and Padfoot continued.
“Blast has left us and we cannot continue without him. We are handing ourselves over. It is the end. The F.I.S. has won.”

A huge smile appeared on Iadsgb’s face. “Oh ho! Now this I didn’t see coming!” he said and looked past Padfoot to the other leaders and his eyes met Jelli’s for a brief moment but then she looked at the ground.
“Well. This is good news! I must arrange a party! But what sort of winner would I be if I didn’t invite the losers?” he grinned. “I shall come and…” he paused as he thought for the right way of saying ‘capture you’.

“Pick you up.” He said with another huge smile.
“I’m transferring our co-ordinates now.” Padfoot said without emotion and typed them into the projector.

Iadsgb pulled his comlink out of its belt pouch and called for Jamie.
“Very well. I shall see you all very shortly then.” He smiled at them and ended the link.

He was still smiling after the link had ended and then burst out laughing. “Yes! At last!” he cried as there was a knock at the door and Jamie came in.
“Sir?”

“Ah Jamie. Good news. The U.R.S. have surrendered and we need to go and capture them. Get the captain to take us too these co-ordinates.” He handed over the sheet of paper on which he had written the numbers Padfoot had sent him.

“Yes sir!” Jamie grinned happily as he looked at the numbers and then went to leave. “Oh and sir, that loony in his lab wants to see you about something.”

“That loony has a name.” Iadsgb said turning his back on Clift and rifling through some paper on his desk.
“Very well. Biosnake wants to see you.” Jamie said and left the room.

Iadsgb walked into Captain Biosnake’s lab a short time later as they were on their way to the U.R.S.’s location.
“Ah Captain. Good news! The war is over!” Iadsgb announced happily as he walked up to where the mad scientist stood at a metal workbench fiddling with what appeared to be a normal set of amour.

“Oh… that is a shame.” He croaked.
“Really? Why so” Iadsgb asked leaning on a control panel next to the bench.
“Because it means I won’t be able to test my new creation in battle.”
“What is it?” Iadsgb asked looking at the armour.
“It’s a Picsuit.” Biosnake finally looked at his leader with a mad gleam in his normal eye.

“And what does it do?”
“It takes a picture of everything behind the wearer and puts it in front of them, making them invisible!” Biosnake stood up properly and held up the suit. “Why not try it on?”
“Um… not right now. I’m a little busy. Y’know… finishing the war!” Iadsgb grinned and Biosnake nodded slightly.
“Very well. I guess it can wait. I have plenty of other new goodies to show you that I’ve made as well.” Biosnake boasted and Iadsgb smiled at his enthusiasm.

“So now we wait.” Flare said as the U.R.S. leaders sat down on the bridge and waited for the F.I.S. to turn up.
“Yes. Now we wait.” Padfoot agreed.
They had just announced over the ship’s loudspeakers what had occurred and what was about to happen and Nightblaze had gone over to The Valentine to address everyone over there.
