Munster Koach
Anyone my age or older should remember a monster themed sitcom called The Munsters. One of the most memorable things of that show was Herman Munster's (the dad and a Frankenstein type monster) ultra-modified Model T Ford hotrod, The Munster Koach. In reality, it was built by legendary custom builder George Barris... never heard of him? Well here's a list of what he's done; KITT from Knight Rider, the GTO from The Monkeys, the original Batmobile (Adam West's), the Deuce Coupe from The Beach Boy's music video for Little Deuce Coupe, the original Black Beauty from The Green Hornet TV series, Dragula (also from The Munsters), ZZR Spy Rod and the car from the Beverly Hillbillies TV series to name a few. Here is my tribute to a great TV car... enjoy!
About this creation

Rod Of The Moment (ROTM) 27/April/2012

When I started this build I had no idea how long it would become. the final dimensions are 49 long x 16 wide x 16 high. Of course all the doors open, but it wasn't easy. I've had to use some pieces for a purpose for which they were not intended but the overall look was the trade off... I'm really pleased with it.

The Munster Koach was built using three Model T Ford chassis, a 10 carb Ford Cobra V8 (289 ci), 3 speed manual transmission and high compression pistons. It took 500 hours to make the scrolling metal work. Once completed it was almost 6 meters long!

In the TV series Lilly (Herman's wife and vampire) wanted to buy Herman a car, she finds a car yard with a nice T Bucket and a Hearse. She buys them both, takes them to a customiser and The Munster Coach is born!

Because it is based on the Model T Ford it is quite narrow.

The front end took almost a week to get right

I'm super happy with the exhaust pipes. The Elephant trunk piece was perfect for this scale

The frame work was really hard to do and the middle window was worse as the standard Lego windows were either too big or too small

If you look I've also included the large leaf-springs on the rear axle

I was apprehensive about using such large rear wheels but it turned out alright

You can see the ten air-intake pipes are actually teeth pieces, the reason being, all of the curved pipe pieces (or anything else I could've used for that matter) were too big

Just like the real Munster Koach, this one has a "Blood Red" interior, gas-lamp headlights, skull radiator cap and gear knob, high-back bucket seats in the front and brass horn on the driver's side

The rear seat took a whole day to work out.

Thanks.

Quoting Marcus Paul Fan. Tas. Tic. Now this is really really great - not only because I am a fan. All those nice details, combined with a very convincing overall shape - awesome. Congrats to ROTM, too, well deserved! What I would like to know is: 1. Was Orion Pax' Koach an impulse? 2. Will there be a Dragula (nudge, nudge)? 3. What about Bricklink sellers in Australia? BL says there are quite a few.
I've not heard of Orion Pax until you mentioned him. he is incredibly talented, but no, he wasn't the source of my inspiration. I just wanted to build the Munster Koach. And... I haven't completely dismissed Dragula yet. I'm taking a brief break from LDD and Lego for a while. There are other things I'm planning at the moment... Like an 8 wheeled hotrod :)

Quoting Ape Fight This is *brilliant*! Awesome attention to detail, it looks so right. I really wish you'd build in real bricks just once, but nevertheless, 5 stars. Epic work. P.s. Look out for the next Rod of the Moment.
Thanks for ROTM Ape. & I too would really love to see most of my stuff in real bricks, but, you can't order in LDD anymore :( And there are no brick shops in Australia :( :(
