A return to more familiar ground. Having seen some great classic space builds on MOCpages, I decided to embrace the classic colour scheme (or as close a homage as I could achieve). I have also been meaning to build a spaceship entirely on the angle, giving a clear x formation; this is what I did here, using two classic castle walls (mostly hidden) at right angles to work as the cockpit base. Using a classic space mini wing at the front to reinstate the horizontal line, was the breakthrough I needed to make the whole thing work. I also took my first step into photoshoping a background.

wow! I really like this fighter! the x concept is awesome and quite unique, I don t mind the yellow accent at all, it makes it even more exciting, I d love you to try to make another longer model, you should expand on that concept, it s sound, and you re quite skilled at it!
Thanks, it is something I'm thinking of developing as a technique. I have a base complex as well as maybe a freighter size ship in mind. With more pieces anything is possible. |

Super cool build. I love the x shape. The way you have made the cockpit is very clever and works perfectly. I really like the lower arm thrusters too, and they can double as wheels when on the ground (in bike mode) ;).
You joke, but I actually considered the possibility of this mod. |

Cool looking Classic Space craft! The cockpit is cleverly intergrated and I like the overall shape. I just made a futuristic Blacktron craft, they would have a great battle!
Yes I saw your Blacktron ship, with the cool speedboat escape pod. |

Yes, the lighting definitely works in that main pic. Here's a tip. When you erase, zoom in as close as you can, and even erase just a smidge past the border of the moc. That will allow the moc and background to blend without any margin. It's not noticeable in your main pic, but just for the future :)
Thanks again, on the next space MOC I'll try that! |

That sounds like a good mix. So, how are you remaining calm enough to type? ;p
I'm only just holding it together... I'm really excited about scaling up the MOCs; the Balrog and the Refinery Way-Station are about as far as I can go at the moment. |

A real mixed bag: about 60% classic space from around about 78/79-85/86 (there is a lot of my brother's stuff in the bag too), quite a bit of classic technic, classic castle and town system as well.

Those colours always bring a smile to my face - we'll forgive the yellow engines ;p The yellow appears in the yellow and black 'bumble bee' stripes in CS. The build is great, and lovely and SNOTty - the 45 degree angle throws up some challenges I bet! Is most of your incoming LEGO CS stuff?

David, this is awesome. I think this is your best ship to date. I love how you mixed up the angles in the front, giving that X-shape. Your engines in the back are simple but effective, and, of course, you have showcased your talent for SNOT. Great work!
Thanks Tim. It was a bit of tricky problem to solve those angles, I tried several clunky approaches before stumbling across the mini wing which just worked perfectly. |

There is no yellow in Classic space. Make the yellow parts gray and this creation will be good.
Thanks Deus, I know I took a bit of a liberty there. I thought I could extend the accenting (as Chris notes) to the lower arm thrusts (this was also a piece limitation compromise) and still keep the ship in line with classic space - perhaps its an homage to classic space rather than a strictly classic space look. Thanks for the feedback; and expect some more classic space from me when I'm reunited with my childhood Lego in full in a few weeks time. |
