There was a knock at the door of Iadsgb’s private quarters as he sat at his desk sketching out final blueprints for a new cruiser he had plans for; The Deliverance.
“Enter.” Iadsgb called and spun his chair round to face the door. The door opened and Commander Stallion came in.
“Sir, We’ve got some strange files transmitting to the bridge.”
“Very well. I shall come and see.” Iadsgb rose from his chair and followed Stallion from the room.
A few minutes later the pair strode onto the bridge and went over to the computer where the files were being uploaded.
“Did they come with any unusual codes?” Iadsgb asked, not seeming too worried.
“Well, there was a message flashed up before they started uploading.”
“What was the message?” Iadsgb asked.
“It said “For Iadsgb: ILF.” Mean anything to you sir?” Stallion looked over his shoulder at his leader.
“Ah, right. Yes, accept them and as soon as they have finished uploading, send them directly to me.”
“You’ve been expecting them sir?” Stallion asked as a message flashed up on the screen announcing that the files had finished uploading.
“Yes. No details are needed.” Iadsgb said walked through the door with a huge grin on his face. Stallion frowned and turned back to the computer.
The Next Day…
On The Manipulator’s bridge…
R.K.’s comlink bleeped on his belt and he pulled it off and switched it on.
“Blast, we’ve got a situation in the war room.” The projection of Falcon said.
“I’ll be right there.” Blast replied and ended the link as he walked from the room, heading for the war room.
A couple of minutes later and The Manipulator’s war room doors slid open as Blast walked in. The room was unusually active. People were walking around at a brisk pace swapping notes and running checks everywhere. In the middle of the confusion Falcon stood with Hess looking some sheets of paper.
“What’s going on?” R.K. asked as he walked up to them.
Falcon looked at Hess who nodded then said to Blast, “Sir, We’re still running checks but it appears that last night 2 top-profile files were copied from the system.”
“Which files?” Blast asked in concern.
“We’re not sure yet but as I said we are still running checks.” Falcon replied.
“Where were they copied to?”
“Again, we don’t know.” Answer Hess, then added “Yet.”
Blast thought for a moment then asked, “Do we have any recordings of the intruder?”
“Yes, but we can’t tell who it is.” Falcon said and led them all towards a huge screen at the front of the room. He typed something into the keypad and the screen flashed into rewind mode for the previous nights camera footage. He clicked the play button when it got to the correct time. Blast, Hess and Falcon watched the footage as it played back the recording from the time of the copy.
The footage showed an empty room to start with but then the doors glided open and a figure wearing a black cloak with a large hood strode into the room and walked up to the main console. They stood typing on one of the many keypads for a minute then clipped a small device into the drive of the console.
Blast looked behind them at that console. There was nothing there now.
The footage showed the figure then waiting a minute before removing the device and shutting down the system. They then turned and walked back out of the room.
Blast looked at Falcon and Hess. “Hm… Have we got any visuals at all on the face?”
“No; none at all. And we’ve checked for fingerprints but the most recent we could find we’re Jelli’s.” Hess answered.
“Well it must have been someone with security clearance. They didn’t exactly break in did they?! They just waltzed right in. Did any ships dock last night?”
Blast thought again then walked over to where the intruder had accessed the console. He checked the drive where the device had been attached. He opened his mouth to ask if they had run any checks on it but before he could say anything Hess gave him the answer, “Yes, we’ve run checks. No, we didn’t get any results.” Blast closed his mouth and smirked slightly at Hess’s fast response.
“Hm… Well, keep me up to date on any discoveries.” He said.
“Will do sir.” Falcon nodded and walked off with Hess as Blast exited the room.
And so for the rest of that day, the war room buzzed with people trying to find any leads on the mysterious intruder. How they had got in? Where did they send the files? Which files were they? And most importantly, who were they?
As the day progressed, it became clear that the intruder had left no evidence and that nothing more was going to be found out so Blast was informed and everyone went back to what they would usually be doing, with two guards left on the door.
Night fell and the ship slept. The two men on the door to the war room stood guard, alert for any intruders. They paced back and forth in the corridor, bored but on the watch.
A few hours later and one of the men’s watches bleeped. He looked at the time. “00-00 hours.” He told the other man
and at precisely that moment a black-clad figure suddenly appeared around the corner at the end of the corridor and glided towards them. Its huge hood was up, the front peak casting a black shadow on its face.
“Halt!” the other guard shouted but it just kept on striding at great speed towards them.
“I said halt!” he shouted again and they both aimed their guns at it.
Its pace didn’t decrease. Instead it reached inside its robes and with great speed flicked out two pistols and fired four silenced shots; two at each guard.
They dropped dead and the doors slid open, emitting the mysterious intruder.
“Sir! Sir!” Blast awoke the next morning to the sound of hammering on his quarter’s door. He rubbed his eyes and pushed himself out of his chair and flung the door open.
“What?” he demanded, annoyed.
“It’s happened again.” Hess announced.
“Well how the blazes did they do it this time?” Blast demanded a few minutes later as he strode down the corridor towards the war room with Hess.
“Both guards were killed from a distance it appears.” Hess announced as they walked past several people clearing up the bodies of the murdered guards.
They walked into the war room and stood around the center, circular console.
“What’s been taken?”
“Again we don’t know.”
“Any visuals on the face this time?” Blast asked.
“Negative. I’ve just been through the footage five times and nothing’s there.” Falcon announced coming up behind them.
“Argh.” Blast groaned. “Who the hell are they and where are they sending my files?”
On The Desolation…
“Sir.” Callum said as he entered Iadsgb’s private quarters. “We’ve got some new files claiming to be from the U.R.S.. What should we do?”
Iadsgb was sat in his chair, facing away from Callum and didn’t turn round. “Did they come with the code?”
“ILF sir?” Callum asked.
“Yes. That’s the one. Admit the files. Upload them and send them straight to me.”
“Yessir.” Callum reversed out of the door and closed it after him.
And so for the next few weeks, every night, more war files were copied from the U.R.S. war room and sent to the F.I.S.. The intruder was never caught, no matter how much security was put in place.
