Lizard Mech
About this creation
Area Denial Mech used by the Australian Army. Based on an Australian Frilled Neck lizard. Got the idea after investigating a bit about non-lethal weapons and was interested by the microwave transmitter concept. Apparently the theory is that the microwave radiation heats up the targets skin, causing acute discomfort but not injury (judge for yourself wether you believe that it won't actually fry your skin or blind you!). Here are some links I found interesting:

This Mech is used as a kind of guard dog, if you will, to either guard important installations or VIPs or to quell uprisings and riots. Note that it is not a battlefield mech but primarily used in peaceful civilian and law enforcement operations.
Second in my series of Mechs based on Aussie animals. Hope you guys dig it! The 3rd one is on it's way. Cheers.

Made a small diorama of a downtown riot, complete with burnt out car and collapsed barricades.

I thought the microwave transmittor array could have 3 settings: a low power, general broudcast (as a warning), a medium power setting (the "ok, I'm serious now" option and a third high lever output, focused on 1 or two persistent individuals (the "ok, you asked for it" setting!) Shown here is level 1

Rear shot. The tail also has emitters on it to deter attack from the mech's rear.

Real lizard legs are low slung. After trying this construction (leg on left), I decided against it, although it is more faithful to the real lizard.

haha this is so cool, I'm from Ozzie to Shannon, and as soon as I saw your lizard I remembered the times when I spooked a frill necked. The way they frill themselves out is scary, can't imagine been next to one that's 50 times my size. Awesome creation though. here's an idea for you, the horny devil lizard, would look wicked as a mech I Reckon, keep up the great work mate, can't wait to see more..... |

Great idea and great shape. I like that you put it on a street intersection to show how it would work. |

Abandon this riot immediately or I will cause some mild discomfort to your skin! I don't think that would get much accomplished. The company is saying mild discomfort, but to disperse a riot, we all know that pain must be knee-buckling severe! The Frilled Lizard look is great. I can't belive I missed this one when it came out. |

Less than lethal weapons are cool. I've been tazer'd (for training people. and by the way, a stun gun is NOT a tazer. learn the difference!) and O.C.'d. Both really s. u. c. k. (gotta type that way cause of mocpages censor program.) but I'm still alive. ~ Chris. |

Whatcan I say...another 1st class Aussie Achievement!
I'm with Shannon Young on this one, the use of australian animals for defensive designs is inspired and the range of posability on the frill lizard is extreme and very well constructed and I love the sleek look of the microwave baffles.
Great little diorama too!
I still reckon you need a platypus amphi-sub though! |
