Almost an exact copy of the RGM-79G Ground Type, the Desert type was a customized variant made for the NAR. With a better armor build, improved cooling and environment sealing, and a better array of compatible weapons, the Desert Type was a good chunk more expensive than a base Ground Type.
The NAR "Blood on the Sand" commando group (SF-13) used this suit type exclusively during the Lebanon Zone fighting. It is commonly seen equipped with a Zephyr 20mm assault rifle and a Python 40mm mobile howitzer. Most Desert Type mobile suits also opt for the expanded ammo and coolant backpack for extended operations without support.
Additionally, the Desert Type often employed the Scarab Heavy Mecha Mobilization and Maneuver Vehicle (HMMMV). An extremely quick hovercraft, it was utilized to deposit the Desert Type mobile suits far behind enemy lines without being visible on radar or to sonar posts listening to ground tremors.
