Quoting Andrew AKA Hump-Free
I'm not entirely sure what some of these effects are supposed to be, like the purple effects of the Slinger image. Another puzzling aspect was the glowing portions at the end of gun barrels, when they aren't firing. The first one looked as if it was charging and thus made sense, unlike the others. Maybe some explanation about each scene would make the effects feel more in place, but right now, they look like, odd in some areas. While the current effects look suitable for aspects such as lights and eyes of the units, they feel out of place when used as thrusters or for lasers. They lack the feel and shapes needed for thrusters and they look too broken up to be lasers. I feel that you're over using a single tool and over simplifying the effects and it makes for unclear images. Try diversifying the effects you are using for differing aspects, it will not only make it look like you put more time into the editing, it will make the editing look more accurate and more pleasing to your audience.
I appreciate the thought out comment, Andrew. I was mostly experimenting, so it's great to hear back on the pics. I've started work on a more serious project-- I'm erasing the original background and I'm going to attempt to add a background. I hear you about the lasers-- it's just really hard to make them without the spark tool so far.
