This is a memorial to Heather Braaten known to us as LEGOGIRL. I have added as many pictures of her that I could find over the net! Today, May 6, 2012 I added 4 more! I added her work - Her famous DOLLHOUSE and clippings from just 12 of the many websites that helped in trying to find her! I also included the cover of BRICK JOURNAL volume 2 number 7 that featured HEATHER in an article. Thank you for stopping by and thank you for offering up your thoughts and R.I.P.s! This is a quote from:QUEEN ANNE VIEW a daily news blog from Seattle (Dated April 2, 2012): "Missing local woman Heather Braaten was found dead on Sunday afternoon. No other details are available at this time. I found this today, May 5, 2012: Heather Braaten was married to Jason Braaten and had two children: James and Lauren. Her parents were: Leo and Robin Schmitz. Her brother was Ian Schmitz. Braaten As we all know she was creative, artistic, and and a brilliant woman. She was involved in the LEGO community and belonged to the AFOL Group. She was into trivia and Trivial Pursuit was one of her favorite games. She was known to be witty and had a good sence of humor known. She brought a smile to everyone she met. I'd like to say first and foremost HEATHER is a person, her faith system (or lack of one) is not in question, we need to remember first she was a talented person. We also need to be made aware HEATHER'S family and friends may be viewing this, so out of RESPECT be kind, and those who claim they are "Christian" I challenge you to act CHRISTIAN and channel POSSITIVE energy! Believers can say her gifts came from God, non believers say her gifts come from the powers that be! FACT: she was talented and by her death we lost a talented person! PLEASE do not lose track of that. Heather was a popular member of the Seattle LEGO community. Our hearts go out to Ms. Braaten’s friends and family." She has earned a place in LEGO HISTORY and on MOCpages! May we all remember her and her IMAGINATION and CREATIVITY!
About this creation

It took me a while to find a modern rendition of Psalm 23 - The Lord is My Shepherd to leave as my prayer for her and her family and friends! With the next picture I will leave the prayer. If any of HEATHER's family and friends stop by please leave a note!

Because the Lord is my Shepherd,

I have everything I need.

He lets me rest in the meadow and leads me to the quiet streams.

He restores my soul and leads me to the paths that are right.

And when the road leads me to darkness,

I shall walk there unafraid.

Even when death is close

I have courage, for Your help is there.

You are close besides me with Your comfort,

And you guide me on my way.

In love you make me a banquet for my enemies to see.

You make me welcome

pouring down honor from Your mighty hand,

And this joy fills me with gladness; it is too much to bear.

Your goodness is with me always,
(Taken May 15, 1976)

And Your mercy I know.

Your loving kindness strengthens me always as I go through life.

I shall dwell in Your presence forever, giving praise to your name.
(Shot done by Sir Nadroj - another MOCpager)

May her soul and all the souls of the faithfully departed rest in peace!

April 1st was in the Catholic Church, the Episcopal Church, the Lutheran Church Palm Sunday, what a wonderful day for God to call his daughter HEATHER home! I have no doubt she was greeted by LEGO PALM branches!

A lovely tribute to a charming lady. You have a heart of gold, Nick. I see this has sparkled much arguing among some fellow builders, shame on some... :( A word of comfort for her family and friends: Your dearest is now free from all earthly suffering - that helped me much when my father died, so I hope it's the same for you.

A quick side-thought, does anyone know what it was that she purchased right before she went missing? Was it a set? Or just another bunch of pieces that were for a current or new build? Most people may think of it as a purchase but we have a view, us FOL, that might shed some light as to her time before she passed. If it was a set, it could have meaning to those closest to her. A bunch of pieces would say even more. These are things I would look at if it was happening to me, to help ease the pain and still focus on my loss. Just my opinion, no disrespect. Sincerest condolences to all who knew her.

Its truly a sad day when anyone who is loved passes away. Lets remember that the one who loves us most and unconditionally, calls for us when we are needed. She touched many with her artistic gift, and the great thing about pictures is her gift will continue to inspire indefinitely. While it is a darker day on earth without Heather, it is a much brighter day in heaven. R.I.P LegoGirl...You get to build with angels now.

Man... I had no idea. I've been trying to keep up with the situation; its truly terrible that it came to this. She will be missed by everyone. She had a great and awesome impact on the LEGO community. And Deus, on your homepage, it says you hate disrespect... I suggest you proofread your comments before you post them. Otherwise, hold your tongue and let people with emotions and longing be. I hope you realize the consequences of your actions. As to Heather, we miss you girl. R.I.P.

A great tribute. I'm sorry to see such a talented builder go. I'm also glad to see the community reach out to honor one of it's own. I would only hope that if the same were to happen to any of us that we would be treated with the same admiration and respect as we have allowed Heather.

Quoting Mr. Black Though not knowing her personally like Sean Kenney, Chris Phipson, or Nanna Zang I feel the great Lego community member will forever be an inspiration to young builders, the center of many of color AFOL jokes for years to come, and always a candle in our memories, sleep well Heather "Legogirl"
I loved your final comments they speak volumes! Jesus said: "We are the light of the world." HEATHER was the light of inspiration for many young builders especially female builders! Hence like the Elton John song she like Marilyn Monroe was a CANDLE IN THE WIND! I got choked up with your 'SLEEP WELL HEATHER' thank you for your positive images!

WHY? Jews, Buddhists, Muslims die as well as do agnostics and atheists! If we are Christians then we pray for all! We do not even separate Roman Catholics from Protestants and Orthodox people. As Jesus said: There are many mansions in my Father's House meaning all are welcome in the Kingdom of God! Heather's faith system and her belief or lack of belief is NOT the issue, she passed on and left loved ones. We pray for her soul NO MATTER what she was! We pray for her loved ones that her passing becomes easier and easier to take each day! O.K.? Let's not lose track of the event---a talented LEGO designer who exhibited her work here on MOCpages died---we lost one of our own!

Quoting Deus Otiosus Seeing that she deleted her accounts it is actually very safe to say that she committed suicide. Was she christian? Christian legends say who dies of suicide becomes a vampire, so I can't express my wish for her to "rest" in peace, since I don't know whether she is religious or not.
No it is not safe to say nor is it correct to assume she committed suicide. The only fact we know is she was missing and found dead. To say more or speculate is to be a gossip monger which is not Christian. As a Christian it is our responsibility to pray for the dead as commanded by Jesus, whether the person is, was a believer. Our prayers are also offered up for the living - her family and friends for example. I know of no such legends or superstitions that state anything about vampires! That is too sci-fi and against religion and religious beliefs! Yes, you can pray for her and most definitely say R.I.P.!

As to the date and reason I draw your attention to the beginning of this memorial. A quote states: "Missing local woman Heather Braaten was found dead on Sunday afternoon. No other details are available at this time. Heather was a popular member of the Seattle LEGO community. Our hearts go out to Ms. Braaten’s friends and family." from the QUEEN ANNE VIEW, Seattle.

No details are forthcoming - just the sad news she was missing and found dead! The only detail important is the detail of remembering her for her works! As we Christians say: they will know you by your signs!

Quoting Mike Johnson Just to be clear I wasn't asking to be morbid in any way. I'm just one of those people who wants to be sure he has his facts straight. To me at least, that's how one should pay proper respect and put to rest any unpleaseant rumors that can unfortunately pop up during such remorseful times. Hopefully that makes some sense.
MIKE take this as some sage advice, o.k.? There are only three ways a person can die: NATURALLY, BY MURDER or SUICIDE. How a person comes to die is not of importance - what is - is the way they LIVED!!! I never listen to rumors they are almost always destructive. The proper way to remember HEATHER is to pay TRIBUTE to her TALENT, CREATIVITY and IMAGINATION. (and if one was lucky enough to know her personally - by HER LOVE!) This tribute does just that! I am 62 and my parents are dead and I am an only child, and I am estranged from my wife and have no kids! FACTS! The fact I was a teacher and dedicated my life to kids - not having any of my own helps me to understand the pain of the loss her family is feeling now! I offer prayers---not rumors!!! We need to respect the privacy of her family in regards to her untimely death! If they wanted any of us to know the details we'd know! So we have only one FACT: HEATHER was missing and died! Honor her by her work which gave hope and inspiration to the young girls who entered the male world of construction toys and had no role model - people like HEATHER filled that void! Honor her life not her death! It doesn't matter how one dies - it matters how one lives!!! PEACE

Thank you, what has happened to her is not of our importance, what is - is that we show her memory stays in our hearts and those of us lucky to have seen her work keep her work as an inspiration for us. Then too we keep her family and friends in our prayers (good thoughts)!
