Mankind has fallen, and the earth is on fire. The sky has turned red and Gods walk the earth again, to fight a great battle! It is Ragnarök, the end of the world as fortold by Norse mythology!
Thor, the mighty God of Thunder readies himself, waiting for his old nemesis to rise. He holds his hammer Mjöllnir high and bellows; "Jörmungandr, show yourself!"
The sea churns and forms maelstroms, and then explodes against the land that Thor stands on!
Out of the ocean rises Jörmungandr, the Midgard Serpent! Up, up, he rises, poisoning the sky with his venom! His body rises and falls out of the sea into the distance, in loops so long that he encompasses the world.
Jörmungandr stares at his arch-enemy with putrid serpentine eyes, and hisses a cry so vile that the sky splits in two.
Thor spins his hammer and jumps forth, towards a battle worthy of the Gods that neither him, Jörmungandr or the world will survive...
This build went through many different revisions, originally with a more symbolic concept from fellow Jigsaw member 55555 of the Midgard Serpent surrounding a globe, but eventually I settled on this version.
The main section of Jörmungandr stands almost a meter tall, and is completely free-standing, with no additional supports. With a creations of this size I had many issues with strengthening the body so that it could support it's own weight, but once I achieved that, I was pleased to find that the section was already quite well balanced, so didn't require a massive base to keep it standing.
