Journal of Ancient Space Travel: Entry 1, Barracuda Class Orbiter - The Mian Situ
About this creation
5/30/07 Mark's Comments - :
A month ago, creation of the Invisible Hand came to a screeching (albeit temporary) halt due to a heavy work schedule. But those late night Lego cravings finally got the best of me. I decided to spend some "quality time" with my wife?...No! My kids?...No! My Legos...of course, (I mean, c'mon Priorities, please!) and put something smaller together until I could get back to General Grievous' monstrosity.
I thought I'd try a fun little excercise - to take two or three ships and combine them into one. I liked BSG's Colonial One, and also some of the greebling done in the USC Star Destroyer set, and so combined elements of both to come up with what you see here.
Other parameters included using only what I had on hand, no new Bricklink orders, and no initial design phase. Building began at the front, with nothing particular in mind, and progressed to the aft section, connecting parts in any way that seemed appropriate or fun.
A storyline has also evolved around this creation, and may be the catalyst for an entire series of MOC’s, if time allows. It’s written from the perspective of a guy in the far future (several thousand years from now) who’s developed a mild interest in ancient space vehicles from humanities distant past. He’s posting journal entries for others who are interested in the subject and will constantly be refering to a fictional past, that for us hasn’t taken place yet.
So anyway, here's the end result of my latest toils. Nothing extraordinary, but fun to build and create a story around, and hopefully worth a look.
As always, thanks for checking things out! Mark

Note: the following images and information was copied with permission from the Legends House, Civilizational Era Room, The Dynastic Periods Section –“The Dynasty Series” - Book 4, “To Protect and Serve,” by Dr. Phillip Proust. My historical knowledge is minimal, and I am unfamiliar with many of the terms used (example: Hull-Busters?), but have copied the information as it was written by the historian, Proust. So much information was lost at the Takers Fall, it’s amazing that even this remains. Nevertheless, it’s fascinating to think that humanity once had the ability to build such things, travel among the stars, and wage wars on an intersteller scale…

APPARENTLY MOCPAGES LOST OR DELETED MOST OF THIS PAGE, INCLUDING THE STORYLINE. I'VE MANAGED TO RESTORE THE IMAGES, BUT THIS WAS BACK IN THE DAY WHEN I DIDN'T KEEP COPIES OF THE TEXT...THIS ONE'S UNFORTUNATELY TOO COMPLEX TO EVEN ATTEMPT TO BRING BACK (AH WELL...LIVE AND LEARN!) STILL, HOPE YA LIKE THE IMAGES - MARK

Too bad the diologue got erased because I was all worked up about it reading your intro...oh well. Great ship though! Guess I never got around to this one until now. It's slightly -just slightly- reminiscent of the Ferret. I gotta say, Mark, space is your thing. I'll be gald when all this other business (like Brickworld, work, life happening, etc.) is outta the way so we can all see the space master back at it again! I could see posts like this all day long! Say, I'd love your opinion on my latest ship if you have a chance. God speed on the continuation of the Eye! |

Somehow I missed this one. I see some definite improvements on the Colonial One design. Better suited to atmospheric flight, and weapons are always a good idea. Nice! |

Sorry I'm late, but I didn't even know what MOCpages was in 2007. 'mazing, cool, wonderful, yadda, yadda, yadda... I don't know why I do even bother. I think from now on I'll only comment if I find something to criticize, otherwise I'll just slap in a couple of 5s... |

Such a shame MoC Pages lost all the text, i'm glad you salvaged the images though. Any thoughts about whether to start this storyline again? From scratch maybe? The initial idea has alot of potential. |

You killed me! You will be tried for murder! I was over at your Apocalypsis pages, and my little heart could take no more, it was fluttering and I was needing some aspirin or nitro and so I quickly clicked over to something else, anything, and I came here, to this Rapturous MOC, and it finished the job started by Apocalypsis!!! |

And this, my friends, is a cool spacecraft, if not a bit derivative. I love the lines and color scheme especially. The greebles are very well managed, the structure is well engineered, and the ship on a whole looks very good. The photoshopping is also well done. I do think that the ship could use a little focus on function. Right now I am not sure exactly what everything does. Keep up the good work. PS: Hope everything the Invisible Hand turns out all right, it looks promising. |

Beautiful design (as always) - looks like it will lead to nice new collection of ships. The story is brilliant. That being said, I am still waiting for the next installment of the Invisible Hand, and if this new line is going to take away from that, then I am tempted to rank this as a 4.99 rather than a 5.00.
