About this creation
The Globetrotters in the 2012 MOCathalon category:
26. MOCing the 80’s
Ah the 1980’s, the good old days, Dennis Price’s favorite decade! Build us a MOC that shows something iconic from the 801’s. It can be a famous movie such as Breakfast Club or Terminator, a popular TV show such as Magnum PI, Simon and Simon, or Dallas; or famous music, Depeche Mode, The Cure, Motley Crue, Duran Duran. Anything you want, just make it 80’s!
The 80's produced many things: some great films; some new technology; some interesting music; and also some crazy predictions about the future! The 1981 film Blade Runner is set in 2019 (only 7 years to go guys!) and is based around the theory that people will all move to space, Earth will be ridden with pollution and that everyone will be driving round in hover cars!
The hover cars in Blade Runner are called "Spinners" and I have created two of them: the main "Hero Spinner" driven by Harrison Ford's character and another, "The Alfa Romeo Spinner", which is seen in passing during a flight scene.

What you see in the background is meant to represent the city skyline using forced perspective. Search the opening of the film on YouTube if you don't know what I'm on about ;)

I had originally planned to build a Minifigure scale "Hero Spinner" for my entry but I changed my mind and was left with all the black/yellow cheeses out, so I decided to use them on the road - "DANGER! KEEP MOVING FORWARDS!"

Find some information and images of the two Spinners here.

Would have been so awesome if you mounted these onto ninjago spinners in the last frame just to throw everyone off. :) Great build! |

The spinners were a solid three, then you bumped it up a bit with the "set." Score of 4. ~Chris. |

Quoting Mr. Xenomurphy
Congratulation, George. As a huge fan of the movie (both versions), I can happily say that you did it justice. Syd Mead would be proud, I'm sure (maybe he'll even have a look at your MOC). -- And now for something completely different: A Scotsm... no, wait, the round table. You mentioned in another comment (Ru) that you're living next to the town where the table is supposed to be. Is the tabletop - only the top without the legs - presented hanging flat on a high wall?
Thanks Xeno! And why yes, you are correct - the table is hanging from a wall with no legs :) Strangely enough though, despite living so close to it, I've never actually been to see it! An outing for the Easter Holidays me thinks! |
