A modern take on the classic Space set "Aero Module". Trans-blue and white never looked so good...

About this creation

Status: Intact. I love how this turned out. It fits the general design and footprint of the original while making more realistic. Another good example of an idea that came out better in the end.

Can you pick out the design elements that were carried over? The canopy is almost the exact same length and the exact same width, but not the height. The wings fold out at about the same place. The black point on the wings, the engines... they are all carried over, but changed to fit the modern feel.

I never actually owned this set under about two years ago. I managed to get it in-box for a very good price. Since then, I've been mildly enamored with it.

"OK, I understand the new ship, but why are you dressed in a black Futuron uniform? The original clearly calls for a blue uniform!"

"Because black is sexy."

I love making these mini-fig scale robots. They all fit in the same spots as the figs, and have almost the same amount of movement. This one reminds me slightly of the robots from Laputa: Castle in the Sky by Studio Ghibli. Oh, did you notice that the torso can swivel? Let's see your mini-fig do that!

The cart. The original was as plain as they got. It was a slab on wheels. This one has two folding control panels (one of which also acts as a protective cover for your legs) and a light, a beacon on the back and a little antenna for picking up the local comm stations as they pump out some phat space beats.

Classic control panels for the pilot, and a hint for anyone that might wonder where the robot sits.

Why does the cart fold up? To fit better, obviously. This gives it a lot more playability while using less room than the original (which had less features than the original). The loading ramp folds up to seal nicely with the rear canopy.

The engines are hinged but are kept in that position. Offsetting them to the sides left more room for reinforcing the undercarriage and letting the ramp move.
