Phantom-Class Carrier
About this creation
Unlimited energy or not, most Corusa Industries units are not designed for prolonged spaceflight, lacking the speed for interplanetary travel and the transwarp drives for interstellar flight. Since Corusa Industries operates almost entirely in a spacebound environment, the Phantom-class carrier was developed to serve as a mainstay of its space fleets. Like most of the company's products, the Phantom-class is defined by high performance for high price.

Designed by Corusa Industries for sale to anti-imperial paramilitary units, as well as the company's own use, the Phantom-class is designed for extended operation in deep space, capable of acting independently for months or even years at a time when properly maintained. The ship measures 1.2 kilometers from bow to stern, with a total wingspan of nearly a kilometer and a depth of 200 meters. The ship is heavily armed, sporting a total of 300 individual Asclepius missile emplacements across the frame, along with another 120 beam cannon emplacements each packing the firepower of a standard beam rifle. For anti-ship firepower, a Phantom-class vessel mounts ten turret-mounted beam launchers located on the forward pylons, side pylons, and either side of the central body, as well as a pair of underslung charged particle cannons whose support frames double as the ship's landing gear. Finally, each Phantom-class carrier features a Vector Destroyer spatial fold cannon mounted along the front of the ship's bow. A devastating weapon, the Vector Destroyer creates an area of twisted space which is then "launched" like a projectile at the target, tearing it apart regardless of armor until the spatial fold runs out of energy. Captains with particularly good insight and timing can utilize the Vector Destroyer for a defensive purpose as well - by firing the weapon so that it "catches" the beam or projectile of a similarly powerful weapon, the attack will be trapped in the twisted space until the energy of both are negated. This will typically stop the incoming superweapon, and if it does not it will still reduce the damage inflicted greatly.

In terms of defensive equipment, the Phantom-class delivers high performance, sporting multiple redundant reactive barrier emitters across the hull that provide either full-body protection for the ship or can protect only selected areas to conserve power and increase shield strength. In the worst-case scenario, the Phantom-class can utilize its trans-warp drive to escape a battle by fleeing the star system, though doing so without first performing the proper calculations is a hazardous prospect.

The Phantom-class is crewed by as many as 800 men, but in practice as few as 60 can operate the vessel, as many of the ship's functions are highly automated. In the worst case, a single man can fly the ship, though he will be able to do little more than make the vessel move through normal space. Provisions onboard are sufficient for a full crew to survive for up to a year without stopping at a planet for resupplying, and a partial crew could theoretically live their entire lives aboard a Phantom-class carrier if such a need arose. To ensure the mental health of the crew, the Phantom-class features accommodations and recreational facilities designed to make life on the ship comfortable, though not lavish. Of note is that the Phantom-class does not require refueling - all of its energy needs, as with many Corusa Industries-produced units, come from its Vitas Engine, a patented piece of technology which acts as a type of turbine for the universal flow of life energy. In smaller units such as mecha prolonged exposure to unrestricted versions of the Vitas Engine has been known to cause increased sensitivity to such energy, causing pilots to begin exhibiting esper-like powers. However, crew on a Phantom-class are typically not close enough to the engine itself to feel such effects.

In terms of mobile weapon complements, a Phantom-class's six individual launch bays and three deployment hatches allow it to rapidly deploy its complement of up to 90 mobile suit-sized units, with each of the three large hangar bays designed such that they can be configured to support even large super robots and mobile armors. Four of the launch bays are along the top of the ship, facing forward, with another two facing back, while the three deployment hatches are located along the underside of the ship. Each of these hatches can also be used to accept returning units. Between the mech pilots and the ship's own crew, a minimum of 150 men are required for a Phantom-class to operate at full capacity. As such, it is a popular purchase for small paramilitary organizations, or as the central ship of a battalion.

Very interesting design. Very serviceable, but it doesn't really strike me as something you might see in the Star Wars Universe. You could tkae this and build an entire fleet around it. ^Blub^
