I don't normally post WIPs, but being my largest project to date, I thought it couldn't hurt to show you all the progress of my rehashing of Star Wars Relativity. This new version, while retaining the same idea, is significantly larger, cleaner, and much less rough around the edges. Enjoy!
I started by doing several drawings and concept sketches. Replicating Esher's work really helped me grasp some of the complex geometry that would need to be represented by the Lego bricks. I also managed to download a 3D model created in Google's Sketchup and virtually walk around inside the artwork.
A very rough test of scale in LDD. At right around this point, I'm starting to hear the sound of dollar bills flying away to Bricklink.
I start building. It is my intent to have the entire piece lit with six or seven lights from the interior.
Oh. This is Herbert the tablescrap. He managed to squeeze his way into this post.
The back of the piece will be cleanly enclosed in light bley with several access doors for lighting.
And finally, a preliminary lighting test.
Thanks for stopping by, and stay tuned! Come to Brickworld Chicago to hopefully see it completed!
A master piece in the making! Max told me you were working on this. Brickworld? Yes, no, maybe so? Well, what ever you end up doing, this is very impressive! I would never have the patience to draw sketches like that...JUST GIVE ME THE DARN LEGO!!! Hehehe. Well, while I go work on developing the virtue of self-discipline, you keep building Paul! I'll be very interested to see the final product!
