Let it roll, baby, roll... let it roll, baby, roll... let it roll, baby, roll... let it roll... all night long
About this creation
The truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth - the real backstory:
When the technic hailfire droid set came out, I looked at those big wheels and immediately envisioned a vehicle where they slanted in towards each other, with a cockpit slung in between. But whenever I try to make that vehicle, I can never get it to come out the way I want it. I recently attempted it for the third or fourth time, with a similar lack of success. My girlfriend, playing with one of the wheels, said, "You know what you should do..." Her concept had the minifig driver centered in one ring, with some little wheels alongside to keep it upright. "Training wheels?" I scoffed, quickly shooting the idea down. But the monowheel seed had been sown, and this is what sprouted.
Dirty rotten filthy stinking lies - the completely made up backstory:
Roger Black was a tinkerer, never happier than when he was puttering around in his workshop or scrounging in a junkyard. One evening as he worked on his latest invention, a monocycle, tragedy struck. The next door neighbor children, playing with a Ouija board in their attic, unwittingly summoned a fearsome Entity that quickly invaded poor Roger's body and turned the harmless contraptioneer into the evil twisted soulless creature you see today. In his monocycle, Cyclops, he embarks on an orgy of evil, leaving a trail of chaos and destruction in his wake...
On the one hand I'm asking you to believe this could have been built by some guy in his garage with contemporary materials and technology. On the other, those are clearly some kind of laser weapons. I don't get it either.
Random factoid: as I write these words, there are only eight hailfire wheels for sale on all of Bricklink, averaging over forty bucks U.S. per wheel, and that's before shipping. Ouch! I got mine, did you get yours? *chortles devilishly*
Oh why must we drive on the wrong side of the road?! Wait...Hey! Any way, I got one of the technic hailfire droid sets when it came out, and damm it was frustrating to put together. But anyway nice job, I've tried to do that as well(the 1 wheel design) and never been sucessfull.
I have two of those Hailfire wheels.
But that's not the point. I've always wanted to make a vehicle like that. At one point, I actually tried turning this wheel into a Toa-motorcycle with blades on it. It didn't work too well. You manage to pull this off quite nicely though. I don't like the ladder on the one side or the neon tips on the laser cannons. But other than that, very nice concept.
Oh, and please go review my Espion-Beta Starfighter. Someone, please?
