Another LOTR diorama, this time based on events in The Hobbit.
This is actually designed to be a playset, rather than a diorama, and has many play functions.
The scene it is based on is when Bilbo is trying to free the dwarves from the dungeons of the Silvan elves. He finds the only possible way out is through a little canal that the elves use to transport barrels of goods.
About this creation
This playset is based on the wine cellar in the elven dungeon. You can see there are cups and goblets, barrels and crates, and even a wine rack. It also has a dungeon cell (there wasn't one in the storage room in the book, but I added it for playability).
Here is a barrel that Bilbo stuffs a Dwarf in. A whole Dwarf minifigure can actually fit in it minus the helmet. You can also see a table with two wine bottles and two glasses on it. This is where the two elven guards get drunk and pass out, and Bilbo steals the keys to the cells from one of them.
This is the first cool play function I added. When you press this button...
...the barrel falls through a trap door!
Here is the second function. This portcullis can be raised...
...to let the barrel through!
The final function is that the roof of the cell can be lifted off.
