Final Heroica: The Last Battle
The heroes have battled their way through Heroica, and many of them have died in the process. One Task still remains, and one hero will rise to the occasion, for only he knows that no peace can truly come until it is completed... That hero is the wizard.
About this creation

The Wizard searched long and hard, finally finding a secret tunnel that the Goblin King himself kept so well hidden. He followed it to a eerie fortress, and immediately knew that he'd found that which he sought... The very place the monsters entered Heroica.

One last battle was left to be fought, he had to slay the rift master. The rift master was once a fire wizard like himself, but when he saw all the power he could have he gave up his soul and joined the ruler of the monster's realm. He held the key to open the rift, and, if it was ever to close, our hero would have to take it form him.

The fortress loomed over him, and he gazed up at it wondering if there was hope him or his land.

There no hope for him, of course, for he himself was only hope. His heart burned with passion, and determination once again shown in his eyes, as he mounted the first step of the bridge.

When he reached the top, he looked in through the arched entryway. A polished marble floor stretched out before him, yet the knew that before the day's end it would be stained with blood.

Statues of the monsters he'd been fighting and had now defeated lined the flanks of the fortress's hall.

At the far end of the room the fallen wizard stood upon a high balcony, with the hollow gaze of his master. Though standing motionless, he seemed to beckon his prey to come in, and his prey did not keep him waiting.

The moment the wizard step inside, the first set of statues shook and came to life. The two goblin warriors instantly charged him. He jumped out of the way just as duel fire balls fell from above, killing one of the goblins. He quickly slayed the other, only to find the rift master at his back. Years of battle had prepared him for this, and he manage to drive his enemy back.

The rift master leaped back up to the balcony, and dropped the first section of floor, leaving no way out. As the werewolves awoke and began hunting the intruder, he bombarded the hero with more fire balls, then once again joined the fight. This continued until but a small section of flooring remained.

With his health at a minimum and his energy quickly fading, the wizard surged passed the last goblin and raced up the steps to balcony. The fallen one met him at the top landing, and both raised their weapons to deal the deciding blow. The wizard lowered his head and rammed his wand through the rift master's dark heart. His enemy's body fell limply at his feet, and the goblin that was pursuing him now slowly withdrew.

Heroica was free at last... Free forever!

Congratulations. You have been awarded 5th place in the fifth Heroica custom board contest (February 2012). I was particularly impressed with the layout design of the board.

Quoting J Hinkel Definitely an epic battle :) For the floor falling away, is that built in or were the pieces just taken out for the picture. It's hard to tell from the pic. I assume the latter, but it would be pretty cool to have the floor change via a knob or pull lever.
You may have noticed the black box sticking out of the back of the MOC(Picture #7). As that is pulled outward the floor will fall automatically one section at a time, starting with the arched entryway. The drop is deeper than you might expect, and while the floor is up it's completely solid. I meant to upload a video of the floor dropping, but I don't know how... sorry.

Now I remember why this looks familiar! The last level from Catacombs 3D! This is an old Dos 3D shooter, even older then Doom if I’m not mistaking. In the last level you walk through a corridor with many archways with statues of the enemies you have slain (Only this one’s don’t come alive) The other and most important difference is that in Catacombs 3D you have already slain the evil “wizard” when you enter this level.

A rift master! I love the way you have taken the Heroica mythos and worked it into your own story. It would be great to see such a character in the official sets. I really like they way you've built him, and a final hall.

Wait... FOREVER? Does this mean we can't build anymore Heroica boards? Fantastic build! I don't think mine has any chance to beat yours!

Wow! Just wow! The build is simple but effective, the story behind it is just awsome! Great work!
