After I built the Salvatori I assumed the next ship, from the Halo franchise, I would build would be the destroyer. So, after a year and 4 months and the creation of two smaller ships, here it is.
About this creation

In 2497, the Gorgon-class, what was then a heavy destroyer with a single MAC, was introduced into service. Later ships classes would include two MACs as they became standard armament on UNSC warships. These warships were used to put down the Eridanus Rebels during Operation: TREBUCHET, with the loss of several vessels. The destroyer Heracles was the command ship of Battlegroup 4 during the disastrous first contact with the Covenant.
During the Human-Covenant war, destroyers were looked down upon by many in the Navy. The destroyer class was initially considered too ineffective against the superior Covenant ships, but in reality, it could receive and dish out a considerable amount of damage for its size, and in groups could prove a match for the Covenant's larger CCS-class Battlecruisers. Senior naval officers estimated that, on average, seven UNSC Destroyers were generally a match for four Covenant Frigates. As a result, many were destroyed in the war.
Commander Jacob Keyes commanded a destroyer, the UNSC Iroquois during a short skirmish over Sigma Octanus IV. During this engagement, he devised the Keyes Loop as an act of desperation. The Iroquois managed to single-handedly destroy two Covenant Frigates and a Covenant Destroyer.

From day one I knew I couldn’t build an exact, 100% right-on replica off this uniquely shaped vessel. So, many aspects of what you see were done my way.

From above my destroyer is very thin, save for the fatter back-end.

The arrow-head tip is the least similar to the reference picture I used. I was dreading it’s result from the beginning, due to lack of necessary parts, but I think it turned out well.

I can only assume these spike-looking things, seen on the reference picture, are some type of array system.

I also assumed that the bottom part of this section housed the ships hanger. In the center is where I placed the two MAC cannons.

The way the MAC and hanger-opening is arranged, it looks like a screaming face.

The middle section is my favourite, though it is very fragile.

This is another section were accuracy was ignored.

The ships bridge is in a rather dangerous location, a well placed MAC round or Archer missile could obliterate it with ease.

I limited the use of greebles on this warship, because this is war, not show-your-technical-parts.

The back end, which was built first, houses the vessels thrusters and nuclear reactor. Due to the presence of the reactor, this section is the most heavily armoured.

This end was also the most accuracy-regarded, except for the smaller thrusters.

I’m not certain what purpose this protuberance serves, so I constructed a small shuttle hanger to give it reason to exist.

The rear engines can move this vessel to the outer reaches of any system within the hour.

More technical parts are visible hear as well.

The underside of this third.

The bottom of the Almaden isn’t that special, but I’ll show it off anyway.

The other half.

This is me, holding the Almaden. It’s the biggest mini-ship I’ve built thus far, so big and hollow it could probably hold the Salvatori and Staten inside it. (Curse my bad hair in this shot, curse it!)

One last full view will end this presentation.
I put a lot of work into this, as I wanted it to be my best creation yet. Please rate and comment on this, and if it’s not too much to ask; recommend others to view it. Thank you!

Very nice ship, Eric! Or is it Erik? I thought I remembered, but I guess not. =D Anyway, just a tip: If you're going to have a white lightbox, it would probably be a good idea to go to an arts and crafts (or some such) store and buy one of those massive, thicker papers. They're usually about one and a bit by one meter. It would make a much better, smoother, lightbox (you would lay it half on your desk and half on the wall (vertically), and this would create a smooth area where you would otherwise have corners); this way, no darkness "collects" in the corner areas. You probably already knew that, but anyway. |

I'm curious to see what kind of structure it has, since there are so many angles and SNOT points on this ship that make its exterior (the best part) ultra smooth.
Lot's of hinge-plates were used, lots. |

Well done! Although I personally prefer the Salvatori, this ship definitely deserves to at least be in the top 3. I think you did a great job on the back, and although I know you improvised on the front, it doesnt look so bad anyways. I'm curious to see what kind of structure it has, since there are so many angles and SNOT points on this ship that make its exterior (the best part) ultra smooth. Great job on this one! (and I like the self portrait...sorta.) |

Now I'm no Halo fan, but I still recognize an amazing ship when I see one! The size alone is impressive, how long is it? Shaping and texturing on this is superb, as is the mix of colours. I really like the shuttle bay in the "protuberance", those pieces work really well for it. All-in-all this is a fantastic ship, and given a few years you'll be rivalling Steef de Prouw and Kelso! |
