Team Lotus JPS Transporter
My second transporter has arrived JAH1L. This truck (otherwise known as 'JAHIL' because of it's number plate) is what transported the John Player Special Lotus F1 cars to races between 1973-1980. It's a funny looking creature and as far as I know there was only one of them made which survives to this day. It is based on a Marshalls of Cambridge chassis, basically a coach chassis.
About this creation
This was built for the brilliant Classic Race Teams Group

I struggled to find decent pictures of this truck, then I stumbled accross the company that restored it to it's former glory and they very kindly sent me lots of great images and a copy of the original blueprint. I am very greatful for that because as you know I like try and squeeze every last detail into my creations.

Let's take a look around...

The truck is 96 studs long and 22 wide. Room inside for a 20 wide JPS Lotus or two that I will commence building this week.

As you can see I put the JAH1L number plate on the front and back.

I left the front until last as it was the hardest and most technical part of the build. I had to use a whole load of SNOT techniques to get it to the accuracy I was satisfied with.

The back opens upwards to reveal where the cars hide. I really like it in here, it's full of cool details that you'll see in a second.

There are two ramps, for two cars goodness knows how the top one operates so it is quite make-shift until I find out how it actually works. I placed plates upsidedown to try and portray the brushed aluminium look.

The two side doors open to reveal a workshop area with steel (plastic lol) worksurfaces and working drawers to store all those important tools.

The workstations are easily removed.

Check out all those useful tools.

I also made air canisters to help inflate those tyres to optimal pressures. And a fire extinguisher. Quite an important piece of kit in those days.

A picture with everything openable open.

Some ladders for easy access to the cab and Work stations.

A little look at the interior. I only had one photo to go on for this which was the seat, and dashboard. I love the details here.

The side panels on the cab ae easily removed so I could take the interior out to get better photos.

Two comfy seats for long journeys in the front (should be three but it was too much of a squeeze and looked too cramped).

And three extra comfy seats in the back for the hard working technicions

I love this dash (probably my favourite to date). I took Lego Builders switch technique to another level ;-) And I had to use that key from the collectable robot somewhere.

The comfy drivers seat.

A picture of my two babies together...Ahhhh they're best of friends.

I need to add decals to this to give it the authentic look and try and break up that mass of black on the sides.

What do you think? Is it as good as my Mercedes Porsche transporter? I can't decide which I prefer.

This is very nice for a beginner LOL! You should do one of these in black, oh wait a minute, you did, I didn't notice! This would be perfect for another remake of KITT and Knight Rider. And this took you only a couple of minutes to build while you were watching the Avengers on BBC? Oh, how about another remake of the A-Team or Airwolf with an expanded ground crew and unlimited finances?

As you posted on my Cosmic Cruiser, LDD is a good idea for the mosaic. You can start with a pattern of black 1x1 plates and then go on with the colour tool. Once satisfied with the pattern you can replace the longer horizontal lines with longer plates. I've tried that and it works really well.

Quoting Nils O. Have you thought about a mosaic? There's so much space for one...
I'd add one if I had the money, i've already gone way over budget on this beast. I'd want to use dark tan to represent the gold and that's not cheap. I might make it on LDD and see how much it would cost.
Yeah, dark tan is quite expensive. I've seen some dark tan 1x1 plates in bulks of 100 on BrickLink for €0,06 each which would be €6,- for the bulk. Maybe you can start with a design and then look how many plates you need.

Oh goodness... This is great! The details and functions you've achieved with the studs-down are phenomenal. Although, I'm not completely won over by the looks of the bottom of the plates. Still, the exterior looks super spiffy, I like how the yellow/orange stripey bit comes popping out from all that black. Must've been a bugger to get these clear, proper lit photos. Unbelievable!!! I especially like the classic wheels and the neon/reflective bit at the back (very technical ;P) !!! I have to say that the interior is especially good, and the centre console really stood out for me. great job! Now, the better one.... I have to say that without any stickers, the JPS is a lot blander than the colourful merc, but i'd say that with some mighty stickerage, it might just be the better one. BTW have you got any stickers yet for the porsches? I'd love to see what they'll be like. Keep it up ;).

W O W !!! - OK, I had to reboot my brain system to restart thinking and to shut my mouth after seeing the pictures :-)) I didn't think it was possible, but I'd say this one is even cooler than the Mercedes/Porsche Transporter. The design is so smooth and you even added more details in this one. My favourite parts are the seats (the driver's seat and the "bench") and the workbench (wow, those drawers...). And it looks so cool in black. Maybe you could use a mosaic instead of stickers for the side panels. You could start with dark tan and later decide if you want to "invest" some money for golden plates. But that's just an idea... It would look awesome with stickers, too. Great job! :-))

Gosh, this is superb. And your 4th addition to the rapidly growing group! To pick between the two is hard, no very hard. Quoting Ape Fight The only thing i'd really like to see is brik-built lettering. Decals will look more accurate but for me they aren't what Lego is about.
Cheers Ape! I have considered doing the brick built lettering but it will completely mess up the interior of the truck and I will have to fork out another £30 (which I don't have at the moment) to do it. It is a nice idea but it's not going to happen i'm affraid. Unless somebody sponsors me to do it (wishful thinking). Glad you likey!

More brilliance from you DeT : ) You've absolutely nailed the shape and the detailing is wonderful. Quite a hard thing to make too, whilst it's apretty much a big box, the front is devilishly difficult. The only thing i'd really like to see is brik-built lettering. Decals will look more accurate but for me they aren't what Lego is about. Anyhoo, this will be another famous MOCpages creation I'm sure : ) 10/10
