Quoting Daniel Mayhew
Very nice concept and well executed. I can clearly see the influences you mention. Good new take on a classic.
Thanks Daniel! I don't think I've got the chops to produce a full MOC, but I'm working my way through what will be a squadron of these, all slightly different as per the pilot's own modifications.
As well, I'm going to be modding some series 2 Y Wings for the 3 Rebellion era variants. It's going to be a busy year on top of the squadron of A Wings I've already got going!
A couple things to note:
1. The rear landing gear design is NOT mine. All credit for that goes to this person:
2. Of all the things I'm happy with for this version, I'm really glad I managed to clean up the rear compared to the 6212. The grey technic pins sticking out were an eyesore, and the huge grey gear for opening the wings was pretty ugly. Mechanically the gearing is the same, with a much smaller and better looking gear knob.
I think the approach to conceal the wiggy wagga greeblies worked, and somehow reminded me of the Clone Wars version of the Y Wing, with so much of the inner workings covered up.
Making the wings 3 plates thick wasn't my intention, but overall I like it. I really need to get busy learning some SNOT techniques.
Again, comments, suggestions, tips, it's all very welcome.
This is a model based partly on the 6212 set, and inspired by the Jedi Stealth X Wing from the New Jedi Order series. It's the first in what will be a full squadron of fighters.
There are lots of things I'd like to improve on, and I welcome comments and constructive criticism from my fellow builders.
