About this creation
Good day all!
I am sure that most of you probably had to do a double-take when you saw who this was built by. This is my first Mech I have ever built, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The challenges of using shades of purple and dark turquoise as the main accents was very fun indeed. Also, the new techniques and normal challenges that you Mech builders face, was a new prospect for me in this. For example, I've never had to have a Castle creation stand on 2 feet, have I? :) I wasn't trying to make it look like a human. (for example, have a head, 2 arms, 2 feet, etc) but was going more for the "machine" feel of this. Kinda like a futuristic tank?

One quick reference, without a doubt the largest inspiration for this build is Cam M. Honestly guys, PLEASE go and check him out. He recently decided to grace MOCpages with his presence, so you should all have the courtesy to check him out. He is the best hard-suit builder on MOCpages as of now. Perhaps even on flickr. God bless you Cam!

Right so how 'bout the LEGO Lord of the Rings? :D

For those who would be interested, I was interviewed: TheOneRing

Any comments and feedback, please leave them below, and I would really appreciated it.
Grace and Peace,

Superb Mech, and a great dio to use at a set-piece for backdrop and scale, too. NICE!

Teal, Purple and Sand Purple!? Could it get any better <3 Lovely Mech Blake! I love the overall look you've given it and I also love that you've given it a vig to create a nice mood :) Nice work ;)

The colours of both the mech and the background are rather desaturated; the off-blues and pinks used on the mech contrasting nicely with the bleak sands of the landscape. I'm all for more daring use of colour, and you have set a fine example!

Very nice. Looks a bit peculiar, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Monstrosity in purple and dark turquoise! I'm starting to wonder if the color choices are for psychological tactics against the enemy. It should make them squirm before any ordnance is fired. XD

A great use of purple and turquoise on this and nice parts usage. Pretty stinking good for your first mech!

Very cool! I have thought of building some mechs recently, and this is truly inspiring. It is huge! I usually build dragons, so mechs are not going to be easy. If you get the chance could you check out some of my creations. You are one of my favorite builders so your opinion means a lot to me.

I think you must have built mechs before because that is a hard talent to come by. I think this is great but I don't like the purple and turquoise. You should make more mechs!

Nice and unusual in any aspect. I love your brave use of colours here. Even out of your comfort zone, your MOCs are remarkable. From an engineers point of view (which I'm not), there are some minor design decisions that are 'problematic'. The left arm's weight doesn't have a counterbalance and a battlemech would be too vulnerable with loose hoses like the ones going from his back to his feet.

Quoting Riccardo Zangelmi Hi Blake, I noticed you from MocOlympics not comment any of my creations, I hope it was not for my comment on your creation of the round 3 against Wes Pitter. You're one of the best for me, I admire you, and you're a great teacher. I hope that everything will go quiet. Take care.
Hahaha, I'm sorry Riccardo, creations sometimes just get swept away before my eyes, and I forget to check them out. Thanks for reminding me though! :)

Quoting Mark Kelso While I don't personally care for the color choices, I salute you for taking a path less troden in color design. Some great parts usage throughout the MOC, too. You're one of those builders that can tackle pretty much any subject, and do it well - nice to see you in the mech arena! Congratulations on the OneRing interview. I'll have to get over there and check it out. Meanwhile, nice work on this new subject matter...Thank you, sir - may I have another!
Thanks for your honest opinion and encouragement Mark! I really appreciate it. :)

First impression was really cool, with the exotic colour accents, but that faded away and I saw a mistake or two. It's your first, so I won't be too harsh on the stuff, especially since I'm no extensive mech builder. For one, it seems a bit too blocky, even if you're going for a tank look (adding a bit more angles on the body and leg shapes would solve that). The dark turkuoise cannon has a bit of a thin connection, beefing that up in some way, like hoses and stuff, would help the cannon flow better. The second thing I have to say about that cannon is that the 3x3 circle to 2x6 rectangle transition seems to be too fast, you should really try making it more octangular, or at least 4-sided. The last thing that bothers me on this mech is the greebling on the turquoise side of the mech, which look a bit forced. It probably wouldn't stand out so much, if the purple side wasn't so good... Split colouring is definetely cool, but there's always one side that's better, and this way it's very clear which on is.

Wow! I was not expecting this from a flashy medievel specialist like yourself! But I must admit, you did a magnificent job here. I like the purple and aquamarine color scheme; those are two colors that are hardly ever paired together. For a first go at the mech theme, I gotta give you two big thumbs up. Job well done!

I admit, I was very surprised when I saw the builder, but despite that, this looks very nice. The highlight colors were a really great choice– they're colors that you don't see much of very often. Also, a question for you, what kind of background do you photograph you MOCs against? You pictures always look so nicely cleaned up, and I wonder how you do it in a reasonable amount of time if you don't use a green screen or something.

  January 27, 2012
Wowza! I was seriously suprised when I saw who built this! Great job Blake! For this to be your first mech I wouldn't have gone with such a hard color scheme as you did. I guess it just shows your mad skill as a builder. After I finish giving you praise with this comment I will proceed to read your article on the LotR license. Well done my friend and God bless you ;) UPDATE: Ok I just finished reading your interview. I have to agree with you about the official LotR sets (I too have sworn to get as many as I can). Part of the reason I build LotR is because it isn't that popular of a theme. Now on to your sets. My favorite has to actually be "The Clouds Burst" since that is the most spectacular Warg design I have ever seen. I can't wait to see some more LotR from you Blake :)
  January 27, 2012
Wow, like the others I was shocked to see that this is what you built when I got the new creation by Blake email! I like it though! I have also been tinkering around with mechs lately as an escape from castle, but have not been as happy, so no posts yet! Are these new pieces from a Friends set? I had to edit to add that I just read your interview on Onering. Great stuff! COngratulations on the attention to those fantastic MOC's!

Quoting Peter deYeule It's good to see you try your hand at other types of creations. I will give you my honest thought, that's always what I'm doing. The general design of your mecha is great. It looks powerful and it don't look as if it was your first try at a Mecha. But I don't really like the purple and the blue bits, I think it looks out of place. It would look more menacing if you had used darker color. But all in all, it's a great build. Honorable mention for the landscaping, most mecha builders usually don't do this.
Thanks Pete, I really appreciate your honesty. I totally agree by the way. The blue is actually dark purple, but looks blue in comparison to the magenta.

Quoting LukeClarenceVan The Revanchist Phenomenal! I must say, I was very surprised to see that you built this! The colouration is really interesting, and it's a great highlight. I also like how you used grey rather than bley on the massive gun, it's a really fantastic detail. I would have preferred if this had a more unique shape, however the colouration makes up for it and this is amazing, especially for a first try. Great work!
Agreed, the shaping is rather un-organic and very blocky. But, I thought this added to the machine feel of it.

This is awesome!! A much over-used word but it's appropriate here. The build quality of this MOC is superb (as with all your MOCs) and the colour choice (old Technic 'Competition' colours) looks fantastic. And to top it off the landscape is excellent too. 10/10, a wondeful MOC
